We stayed at site 1 and had a really good experience. The location is close to thw only restroom in the camp as well as to the creek. The campsite was very clean. Ken, the camp host was super friendly.

This was our third visit to Cataloochee. We wouldn’t camp anywhere else in the Smokies! It’s quiet, peaceful ,shady and far from the crowds. The bathrooms need some updating but that’s the only negative thing I can say.

This was our third visit to Cataloochee. We wouldn’t camp anywhere else in the Smokies! It’s quiet, peaceful ,shady and far from the crowds. The bathrooms need some updating but that’s the only negative thing I can say.

Do NOT book a site here if you are afraid of narrow roads and blind hairpin turns on steep, barrier-free terrain. The destination was not worth the stressful drive as sites were tight and families let children run the place without respect for campsite boundaries. Screaming gangs of children are tolerable in larger campgrounds, but not in this fishbowl with nowhere for them to go and at 7:00am. The best part of the experience was the host. Recommend reminders of campground etiquette (not that offenders would comply anyway…) and a more severe warning about the access road on the rec.gov description.

Awesome campsite, hosts were fantastic. So much to explore in the valley, bring your bikes and explore old Cataloochee Trail Road

From I-40 take Exit 20 in North Carolina. Turn right onto Cove Creek Road and follow to the Park boundary. The road goes from pavement to gravel to pavement. Upon reaching the pavement the second time, turn left. Go 2.5 miles to an intersection and continue another .5 miles to the left.
Cataloochee Campground is accessible via I-40, with Exit 20 providing the nearest access point. From the interstate, travelers can reach the campground by following Cove Creek Road to the park boundary.
