We pulled a 30 foot fifth wheel in over what we call the “ three mile road from Hell” the campground was great but worried much of the time about getting back out. I would suggest the road be limited to no more then three axles, the elk were wonderful !

Really enjoyed this campground. The rough ride in and lack of showers must keep enough people away to keep this park beautiful.

A nice get away from the crowds in GSMNP this season. Elk, hiking trails and historic buildings.

Despite the challenging road to the campground, the setting is awesome, It would have been good to know that the road at the pasture was washed out, but we hiked past there to a wonderful hike past the Palmer House. The streams were too high to cross without getting very wet. The Little Cataloochee Trail is tough but beautiful. The campground is very basic, has flush toilets but you will need a generator or solar for power. We love this place!

From I-40 take Exit 20 in North Carolina. Turn right onto Cove Creek Road and follow to the Park boundary. The road goes from pavement to gravel to pavement. Upon reaching the pavement the second time, turn left. Go 2.5 miles to an intersection and continue another .5 miles to the left.
Cataloochee Campground is accessible via I-40, with Exit 20 providing the nearest access point. From the interstate, travelers can reach the campground by following Cove Creek Road to the park boundary.
