Bandits Roost is one of our favorite COE campgrounds. We camp with four teenagers who enjoy the nice basketball court and swim beach, as well as riding bicycles. The staff is friendly and helpful.

Nice quiet campground. Very nice people. Facilities are severely lacking though, two toilets and two showers that are very old, very small, with no fans at all. About an 8-10 minute drive out to Lowe’s which has nice, clean, bathrooms.

I enjoy camping at Bandit's Roost. There are lots of lake activities for the whole family. If I had to make any kind of recommendations, it would be more planned group activities at the campground....anything! Overall, the campground is very nice, wooded and clean.

Absolutely loved this campground. So much, we booked for another week and spent 12 days here. The peace, the scenery and the facilities were just what we needed. Can’t wait to go back!!

This campground USED to be one of the safest and best kept campgrounds. Now there is no security, no rangers presence, grounds are not completely mowed, the gatehouse is only manned for 3 hours a day. No one knows how to contact anyone when there is no one available. The entrance automatic gate ihas been broken for two years.

Park is great. Bathhouses need updating. They haven’t been updated in the 20 years that we’ve been going. Toiletries are out lots of times. Downtown North Wilkesboro is great to visit.

From Winston-Salem, North Carolina, take Highway 421 North (approximately 55 miles) to Exit 286B, turn left onto Highway 268 and continue for approximately 5 miles. Turn right onto Jess Walsh Road. Campground entrance is located at the end of the road.
From Charlotte, North Carolina, take I-77 North (approximately 60 miles) before merging onto Highway 421 North towards Wilkesboro/Boone. Continue to Exit 286B (approximately 20 miles), turn left onto Highway 268 and continue for approximately 5 miles. Turn right onto Jess Walsh Road. Campground entrance is located at the end of the road.

Winston Salem: 1 hour.
Charlotte: 1.5 hours.
The campground is accessible via Highway 421, which is approximately 5 miles from Highway 268, and I-77 is also within reach, merging onto Highway 421 toward Wilkesboro/Boone.
