West ashtabula does not have anything but basically porta a potties. In order to go swimming or shower, etc. You have to cross the lake to east ashtabula. The reason we chose West was because it allows alcohol and East does not. Other than not having many amenities it was fun to camp there. You were able to see a full sky of stars at night which was beautiful. Phone service is not great there. Sprint has none and Verizon is hit or miss.

The reason we chose West was because it allows alcohol and East does not. Other than not having many amenities it was fun to camp there. We were able to find a tent camp site at the last minute. A Park Ranger who came by was very helpful in us getting set up.

This whole campsite is in terrible need of updating. Everyone has larger rigs and campers nowadays. The power system in not suffice. Lots are very unlevel. New trees are planted in the most ridiculous locations making it harder to maneuver campers around. I'm all about planting trees, but lets do some forward thinking. The road never gets graded. The mowing of the area is decent, but a lot of room for improvement. The vaults do not get cleaned as often as they should, and the toilets do not have the safety bars to prevent a young child from falling down them. Lighting all the way through needs to be updated. There are so many opportunities for this campsite, but whenever something is mentioned it falls on deaf ears. Water hookups could easily be expanded. The dump station needs to be expanded. Everyone from the east side crossing comes over and dumps, creating more traffic and more mess.

The main route to the park is via Interstate 94 to Valley City exit 292. Follow the signs through Valley City to County Road 21. Travel North for 15 miles.
The campground is accessible via Interstate 94, with the nearest exit being 292 in Valley City.

Policies & Rules
Cancellation policy
- Reservation fees are non-refundable. For campsites, cabins, lookouts, yurts, group sites, and similar stays, we charge a reservation service fee of $8.
- Standard cancellations usually have a $10 cancellation fee. Customers can generally cancel before the check-in date online.
- Late cancellation rules differ by stay type.
- Individual campsites: cancelling after 12:00am local time the day before arrival usually means a $10 cancellation fee plus forfeiting the first night's fee.
- Cabins, lookouts, and yurts: cancelling less than 14 days before arrival usually means a $10 cancellation fee plus forfeiting the first night's fee.
- One-night reservations: a late cancellation usually forfeits the full amount paid, up to the total original reservation cost.
- Modifications are allowed before the cut-off window, but fees depend on the change. Changing to dates completely outside the original reservation dates may trigger a $10 change fee. Extending or shortening a stay that still includes original dates usually has no change fee, though refunds may depend on timing and facility rules. Switching to the same type of campsite for the same dates usually has no change fee, but price differences are charged or refunded.
- Early departures may or may not be refunded. At certain facilities, partial refunds may be possible if staff can mark the site available for other visitors. No refund is given for a night if the early departure is requested after that day's check-out time.
- Security deposits are separate. Security deposits may be refunded to the original payment method if the facility is left in acceptable condition, as determined by the property.
Fires & fuel
- No outside firewood is allowed due to invasive insect concerns.
- Buy firewood locally and burn it on-site to protect forests from pests.
