About Iron Ridge - Lake Vesuvius

Iron Ridge is one of two campgrounds in the Vesuvius Recreation Area in southeastern Ohio's Wayne National Forest. Iron Ridge offers a great location for outdoor recreation, with activities like boating, swimming and fishing on Lake Vesuvius. Horseback riding and hiking are also available in the rolling hills surrounding the campground.

Wonderful camping site, our first trip with our new camper & will defiantly return! Very quiet & clean ! We loved all the trails around the Lake, camping, hiking and fishing, a great way to unplug & return to Nature!

The camping areas are neat and clean. There is a large, very private area with plenty of space and privacy. Forestry service patrols regularly and camp host are friendly and keep the camping areas neat and clean. There were no water services this year but it is our understanding the water project will be completed soon. We appreciate and frequently use the many public areas at Lake Vesuvius. We are fortunate to have such a wonderful place to enjoy. Great week!

Nice quiet campground. Stayed here in a tent with my motorcycle. Be aware that several tent sites may require a walk down a hill from where you park. Location is very well maintained. Would definitely stay here again. Only negative is firewood is hard to find.

I had been to lake Vesuvius many times growing up and had not visited for several years and was happy to see that everything pretty much looked as I remembered! The trails are marked better these days as well. All the facilities were very clean and easy to locate, and I liked our campsite.

Iron Ridge campground was beautiful. The water supply was shut off during my visit, but I was notified prior and planned for it so there was no problem. Perhaps the water/bathrooms being out of service is why there was almost no one else there which was wonderful. The sites would have been rather close to each other if they were full. There was no entrance sign coming from 93 so I passed the entrance, but there is a sign coming the other way from the east.

would really appreciate lantern hooks by the tables for the non-electric sites. That would make it perfect. Love this campground. I travel to National Forests in Montana and Wyoming and always rave about the facilities and am SO happy to have found something as good as that here in Ohio. This place is great. I'm hopeful, it will continue to have the same level of upkeep.

From U.S. Highway 52 at Ironton, Take State Route 93 north for 6 mi to the Lake Vesuvius Road (County Road 29). Turn east toward Lake Vesuvius and travel 1 mi to the recreation area.
