Only got to stay one night at this campground. I would definitely visit the Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge again. I was there late September, the elk were calling all night at a distance - not too loud to disturb my sleep, in fact it was quite hypnotic. Although, something did visit to rub its horns or antlers on a tree not more than 8 feet from my tent at about 03:00. Birds by the lake would occasionally chime in and crickets that made a reggae sounding tune. Quite a humbling experience and I didn’t even get to explore, only arrived to set up tent just before sunset and was packed and on the road again early morning. Thank you Doris Campground, if I’m ever traveling through the area again I would surely stop by to re-experience that place.

Great spot for car camping. Well maintained, Good spacing, nice shade trees, good locations for toilets/showers. Nice price with good supply of firewood and ice. Nice access for quick 20min hike up little baldy direct from camp or quick drive to trailhead for Bison trail, Kite trail, Elk mtn, Charons Garden.

Wonderful place. If visiting in fall check out Rush Lake in the evening to hear the Elk Bugle.
