Tall Chief Cove is a well-maintained campground with clean facilities, friendly staff, and beautiful waterfront sites, making it a great spot for relaxation and family fun. Many visitors appreciate the shaded areas, easy access to the lake, and the helpfulness of gate attendant Kathy. While some sites may be narrow and lack sewer hookups, the overall experience is positive, with many guests expressing a desire to return.

When I got at my site there were 2 girls camp in my spot that I had to remove. The gate attendant said that she could file charges on me getting there to early and she was going to charge me an extra day…very rude

It was nice and quiet. The campground overlooks a wide valley that fills with water at times when the Kaw reservoir fills. When we were there the edge of the lake was barely visible. The campground did not show up on our RV Life app, but was still a pleasant surprise. The 1-2 mi of washboard gravel road leading to the campground from the north was slow going but manageable.
The entire campground is heavily forested providing plenty of shade. The grounds were well mowed and maintained. The roads in the campground were paved and easily navigable. The campsites all seemed fairly level, well spaced, and functional.
We thoroughly enjoyed our time there.

Our neighbors brought a goat and kept it in a cage and it cried a lot. They burned their trash in the fire pit when they left. They played loud music without regard for others. After the weekend the experience was great!

I gave it 2 stars because the sites are beautiful and we love the lake. Otherwise, it gets only 1 star. We will not be returning after going there many years. We stayed 6 nights on this trip and never once saw a ranger drive by. 2 of the sites around us had at least 20-30 people on them with music turned all the way up and dogs running freely. There were so many cars you could hardly get by them with a boat or trailer. Many complaints were made to the camp host who tried to tell them to turn down the music but the campers ignored them. If the campgrounds open April 1st, I believe the rangers should be available on the weekends.
We also were told that we could not come to our site before 6:00 pm on our check in day even though the site is empty. That is not a problem at any other park.
Tall Chief Cove has become a rowdy party park without any supervision. They are enforcing rules that don’t make that much difference but letting rules for safety just be ignored. We witnessed someone driving down a stretch of road by campsites doing at least 35 mph. All this reported to camp host which they could do nothing about and rangers were unavailable. We will stick to quieter campgrounds.
