The walk-in tent campsites in Buckhorn are so nice! We stayed for two nights, hiked the Rock Creek trail one day and otherwise relaxed in camp. It's a large, flat area; picnic table, hanging pole, and fire pit; shade trees (which during the warmer months would seem to offer a decent amount of seclusion between sites); and the bathroom facility is very clean. The campground host was also incredibly friendly and helpful. The only particular issue we experienced on this trip was other campers with large dogs they weren't able to control, leading to CONSTANT barking.

I was there for a week. The campground and bath house was immaculate. James, the camp host was wonderful. The trails were great, the fishing relaxing.

First, the park is beautiful and very clean with wonderful views of the lake. However, for us, towing a 44ft RV with a Ford F450, just getting thru the park and in our spot (85C), was so treacherous that we actually decided not to stay again on our return trip and cancelled. Reason: apparently someone decided that it was a good idea to put huge boulders on both sides of the entrance to EVERY spot; and along the winding road about every 10 ft, just everywhere that made it a nail biter to even get up the road.
If you are in a smaller rig, this is a beautiful place, but is definitely not big rig friendly and that’s a shame.
Many thanks however to the very kind park ranger who helped guide us into our spot when just my husband driving with mirrors and camera and me going to every side and rear wasn’t enough to feel comfortable around all those rocks.

Our experience at this camp Ground was great. We did primitive tent camping and enjoyed our time. We really liked the feature of the raised area for your tent and picnic table/fire pit. The scenery is beautiful, there are a lot of trees and greenery around. We were fairly close to the water even being at the first spot when you drive in. The host came by within 20 minutes of us arriving he was very kind and checked us in and answered our questions. It seems like a very well run campground and that definitely keeps the trash and riffraff out. Just note there is no water at your individual campground in primitive and you may need to drive to the bathroom which is what we did. The bathrooms are clean they also have showers available if needed. Take some time to drive around the area as it’s really pretty around the lake. You can bring your own firewood if you would like or you can cut any that is already on the ground for your use.

We had the best time spending 2 nights at the Buckhorn Campground Loop D walk in campsite. Our camp host, Mark, was able to exchange our campsites per our request, to have more privacy and to get a better spot. He is one of the reasons why we will be back, besides the beautiful sceneries. Thank you, Mark!
