The campground was well maintained. We stayed at Loop C. The shower house/ restroom was very clean and well supplied. It was a short walk to the lake and a short drive to the trails.

The campsites are great for tent camping and RV camping. The pads are great sizes for both. Host was helpful, friendly and informative.

Beautiful Park! We loved our trail hike trail 1 and trail 4. We hunted all our down fall wood and enjoyed being in and interacting with the woods and fishing. Thank you!

We were totally unfamiliar with the Chickasaw National Rec Area. So when the direction took us to the visitors center (remember, driving a large rig here) we couldn't just stop and park so we continued on. I quickly pulled our reservation and typed in Buckhorn. Much to my surprise it was a "known" destination. I just wonder with all the emails sent prior to the trip something couldn't have been said about the direction. Here we were probably 8 miles away from what looked to be an interesting area that would have been nice to be able to explore. Here again, we knew nothing of the area and what was available. Buckhorn itself was pretty, hilly and the site seemed to be nice, at least ours was. However, where are the trails? There was one noted on a map but we never found it. I think you had to traverse down a busy road. Great idea if you have kids on bikes huh? Would we come back? No. We were disappointed. The only walks we took were around the Buckhorn sites and the lake. Not enough to keep you busy and challenged.

The camp host was friendly and helpful. The shower house and restrooms were very clean. I liked that the park is a good distance from the closest town - close enough to visit, but not a lot of traffic. I wish there was better internet reception.

December is a great time to visit the park if you want to experience the serene stillness of the wood and lake. We mornings weren't too cold and the afternoons were splendid.
