What Guests Are Saying
Big River is a charming campground with peaceful river access, well-maintained sites, and a clean environment, making it a favorite for some visitors. However, there are concerns about limited facilities, such as only one toilet for multiple sites, and issues with noise and maintenance. Overall, while some guests experienced inconveniences, many appreciated the natural beauty and tranquil atmosphere of the location.

Our favorite site of the trip, quiet and directly on the Deschutes River.

Visited in Late May. This was the worst Rec.gov campsite we’ve been to. SO many bugs (I know that’s not really controllable), but the outhouse bathroom was locked shut.
No picnic table or fire pit, nothing to see.
It was just a place to sleep for the night.

It’s a very nice little campground. A little noise from traffic but great for a few nights. Staff keeps camp clean.

We stayed in Campsite "C". Near it was the only access for both campsites "B" and "C" to the water, and the access, as it was, was very poorly maintained. Not only that but directly across the main road was a much larger portion of the Big River campground and both foot traffic and folks on bikes, passed though our campsite frequently. Folks can be very rude! I do not remember anyone asking permission to pass directly though our camp. And some passed though multi-able times. Also the only campground toilet was located between camp "B" and "A". Quite a ways away from our site and two larger camp trailers (staying at camp "B") was parked directly in-front of the toilet. I mean the edge of their awning was 15 feet away from the door of the toilet and right on top of the intended path through the under brush to the toilet. Will not be going back to this camp ground!

The campsite was two inches deep in powdered dust. Could not even get out of the vehicle without getting covered. This campground needs surfacing, would never camp there again!

Drove 8 hours from Arlington WA to catch a festival for the weekend. Showed up and someone was in our spot. An honest mistake because the sign for our site had not been updated. Luckily the people were very friendly and didn’t mind moving. The spot was cluttered with liter. Not sure if it was from the people who were in our spot when we arrived or the previous occupants. The spot itself was beautiful. Shade, couple spots for a hammock, and a few tents. Site 004 has its own access to the water. Trees provide plenty shade and the campground has access to the water underneath the bridge. Not a beach by any means but a grassy spot that’s drops into a foot or so of water that turns into a rocky shallow area a bit further down. Low rating is due to the sign not being updated.
