We've been coming to crane over 40 years. A family tradition. We're happy to see something being done about the ants finally but we wish they would mark the hills with flags only and not tape. The yellow tape distracts from the beauty. Also too many downed trees and logs. They need to be removed and I'm sure they will be. We will never stop going to crane!!!

Beautiful view from our campsite. Close, but not too close, to the lake.

We could not stay at the campground because the air quality was in the unhealthy for all populations zone.

Great campground. A good majority of the sites are good. The ones in the back are great for privacy too!

Our entire group was very disappointed by the way the campground host told us to leave the small beach on the lake. He implied that we had crossed the tape barriers that were up. We did not. There were no tape barriers leading from our campsites on the lake (site89). He was rude & acted like he was looking for a fight! He wouldn't listen to anything we had to say. Your website did not have any info on any closures to the beach either. We (our entire group of 6 families) will not be coming back to Crane Prairie campground.

The campground is right near the lake and is generally very lovely. The camp hosts were very friendly and responsive.

Recreation.gov needs fixing. Also, it's a weird policy that you can only pay for one night at a time, when clearly a site is open. There were several (like more than 10) "reserved" sites went empty, even on the weekend, so the system doesn't seem to update correctly. That's a problem - we could have tried for a better spot if we had known there were cancellations or no-shows. The system seems broken.

The biggest issue was other campers, who were very loud late into the night. Others' kids were up at 6 am shouting, and no one seemed to be asking them to quiet down. I love kids and music, but the camp should post clear rules about quiet times, say 10 pm to 7 am or something like that.

The campground has pretty clean pit toilets, which got old after 4 days. We could smell the one near us (site 131) on two of the mornings . The nearby "resort" (really just a store, small marina and RV camp) has showers during the day only.
Lots of mosquitos by the lake. Wear your Deet so you don't get eaten alive like I did!

  • Fire Restrictions: Fire restrictions may be imposed at any time due to hot, dry weather conditions, at which time campfires and charcoal fires may not be allowed.
  • During your time in Central Oregon, you can find wildfire, prescribed fire and smoke information at centraloregonfire.org
  • Reserved Sites will be held until the day following your arrival date. • Refunds: Refund requests made through www.recreation.gov will be charged a $10 processing fee. This fee is retained by the reservation service contractor along with the non-refundable reservation fee. All requests for the return of the non-refundable reservation fee and the cancellation fee will be declined by the campground concessionaire as they did not receive these fees (these are the fees retained by the reservation contractor, a different entity).
