A lovely lake but less than a quarter full this year. So sad. Many trees have been killed by beetles but there's lots of new growth. It means many sites look "barren" but that's part of nature. Very nice host. Decent outhouses. 6 miles of pretty bad gravel road to get in. Right at the NE base of Mt. McLaughlin. A quiet place.

Camp host was very friendly and helpful. Fishing access to the lake was great from each site. We were happy to learn we were allowed to have a campfire. Weather was the only not great thing about our stay. Temps dropped to around 34 degrees and was very windy with spotty rain. Still had a great time!

The lake was beautiful! The overall campground is recovering from a fire, several years ago. The trees are all very short and dense. It takes time for land to recover. Because of this, the sites that I saw did not have a lot of shade. Ours was very open, but I had planned ahead and brought my canopy. The weather was pleasant. Mosquitoes were not abundant, but I used lemongrass essential oil around me and I didnt get bit at all.
The only complaint I have is the size of the site. Because of rocks and plant regrowth, the site was not very big. There was one very small level, clear area that held a small tent. We had 2 vehicles, and a small camper. Less than 10 ft. Our vehicles barely fit. It just felt quite squished in there. There were several areas that would have worked well for a tent, but they had large rocks and plant growth. The fire pits are amazing. They have massive rock walls around them, which helped keep our fire small, and not blown by lake wind. The picnic table is a nice addition.
The toilets are clean (outhouses). Unfortunately, I reserved my space based on where they appeared to be. The map needs to be updated.
Overall, it was an enjoyable experience. The count hosts were also very nice and patrolled often.

First and foremost the camp hosts are absolutely amazing. Not only were the super friendly and easy to talk to, but they really went out of their way to make us feel welcome and comfortable. The campground was well kept and I have never been to a campground with vault toilets that were so clean and pleasant smelling. I highly recommend this site for anyone who wants to unplug from the world for a bit and just be present in the world and relax. The chipmunks frequented our site constantly and were so adorable. We saw frogs, caught fish, and walked the trails. 10 out of 10.

Very poor experience I have camped in this exact number before, was appropriately a single spot now a double. No room for more than one tent. They charged for every vehicle past one in a double spot. It had cable that was halfway in ground and several of my grandchildren tripped and fell on this. The park hosts charged us an extra 100 for cars past one when two should be included for a double spot. The camp hosts were constantly driving by and down by lake making you feel uncomfortable and like you had no privacy UPDATE. AFTER OVER A WEEK OF TRYING TO DISCUSS MY CONCERNS WITH FOREST SERVICE AND LAKE OF THE WOODS I DONT BELIEVE THE ADDRESSED ANY OF MY CONCERNS ON SAFETY, SITE ASSIGNMENT AND HOSTS BEHAVIOR. DUE TO LAKE OF WOODS OPERATING THIS FACILITY ITS BEING USED LIKE A RESORT WITH OUT THE AMENITIES. I WILL ALWAYS SUPPORT OUR LOCAL FOREST SERVICE BUT WILL NOT STAY At Work THIS FACILITY AGAIN DUE TO ITS MANAGEMENT
