What Guests Are Saying

Bear Springs Campground offers a pleasant experience with spacious areas, particularly in the D loop, which is ideal for group camping and well-equipped with tables and a fire pit. However, there is no water available on-site, and some loops, especially A and B, are poorly maintained and can be problematic due to flooding and downed trees. Despite occasional noise from nearby traffic, the campground can be quiet, and the latrines are regularly cleaned.

As others have mentioned no water is available at the campground. Our group had a great time. Plan for lots of caterpillars if going in early August and it's a good idea to bring extra TP in case the vault toilets run out.

INFO that’s helpful:

There is NO water.

We couldn’t see any sort of pavilion or shelter.

A & B loops are NOT good and A had a bunch of downed trees that made it impossible to camp there. B looked like it had recently been flooded and was a mess. We moved over to C loop which was better—but they definitely don’t do anything to the campsites to maintain them. We were able to find some good spots to put our tents in the C loop though.

D loop is by far the best for a group. It has this big open space, lots of room for tents, 3 tables and a big fire pit. None of the other loops should be advertised as group sites—D is the only true group site. It also has the most sites to park cars and put tents etc.

There is one latrine for women and one for men. It appeared that they came daily to restock and clean these.

This campground is close to the road. The first night was a Thursday and all night long there were super loud trucks—it kept us all up. The next night this wasn’t the case so not sure why there were so many the first night.

Overall, the campsite was pleasant. There was plenty of space, and it was very quiet as only one other group was present. There was no potable water, which was inconvenient. Most distressing was the fact that our reserved campsite was completely flooded, and we were not notified ahead of time. Thankfully, there were plenty of open spots. Had there not been, this would have been a very stressful situation.

Do you love camping in a rubbish heap? This is the place for you! All kinds of plastic and cans are on display. But the really unique item is the cigarette butts. This camp ground could be the highest concentration of cigarette butts within 250 miles. That being said, it's very dark and quiet. No road noise at night.

The camp description mentions there is water. There is not any potable water in the area. Other than that we enjoyed the spot.

No host, no firewood for sale, no running water. The group sites also aren’t the most ideal for a large group of people that it’s supposed to fit. Lots of roots in the ground and hilly areas making it difficult to find a tent pad. It was nice and secluded though so our group made the best of it!

Not very happy. Website said there was a host and to get firewood from them. There was no host. Website said there was drinking water, but there was not. Maybe try posting correct information next time?

This is a beautiful place to capture fall colors. The campground essentially is empty after September so visiting at this time of the year is a wonderful private adventure. The maples interspersed with the pine trees, give a wonderful blush of color and the peaceful nature of the forest, calms the soul.

When booking a group site, we expected one large area to put our tents and gather as a family but instead found that we had about 5 normal camp sites all next to each other. It worked great for our family, but night not work as well for others so keep that in mind. We enjoyed our day at Ski Bowl riding the alpine slide and much more! Overall, it was a great weekend. The pit toilets might smell less earlier in the summer.. they were extra smelly for our trip in late August!
