Box Canyon Guard Station Cabin

We had a one night stay at the ranger station and loved it! It was cozy, rustic, yet clean. We enjoyed how remote it was yet close to trails and the road access was nice. The beds were moderately uncomfortable so an extra pad would have helped our achy bodies rest better. There were a couple games and some coloring options however you might bring your own games/puzzles if you're into that. The fireplace was finicky and intermittently smoked us out of the auto-flu got stuck but it was great to keep warm. The cabin had a small supply of firewood but you might consider bringing your own chainsaw/hatchet for acquiring firewood. Overall, we enjoyed it and would come again.

Lovely spot; cabin and outhouse were clean. Only problem was no clear instructions on how to find water supply since we were biking. Description said water nearby but we couldn't find where and how far it was. That would be useful information to have on website.

The cabin was clean. Zero amenities so bring your camp kitchen!
I agree with another commenter that the futon is a joke. If you wanna sleep hammock style, thats the futon for you.
Beautiful area though, saw deer, bobcats, cougars. Very quiet and peaceful.

The accommodations were wonderful. The camp visitors (three Does) were amazing both nights.

Had to sleep in the car, the beds were jammed i to a small bedroom and couldn't use them. The futon was a joke. The public took our parking spot. It's like renting a house but you don't get the driveway. Had to share the picnic area with the public too.

It’s very remote. Be sure to take maps. A couple deer families like to come visit in the evenings. Beautiful water not to far away. A lot of forest to explore.

They removed the inside wood burning stove, just before our weekend, when fire season was ended, and it was getting cold wet and rainy, with no other source of heat.
Why they would choose to do this before the end of their rental season makes no sense to me.
So sitting around the fire ring in Western Oregon in October was about as wet as you can imagine. There was no firewood cut, but we brought scrap wood from job sites as a base, or we could not have gotten a fire going at all after the several days of rain just before we got there, and the rain most every day we were there.

Wood stove wasn’t listed as “gone” or “removed” so we read description as a warm cozy cabin and there was no heat source when we arrived. Left night of stay

Perfect stay. Extremely easy process. We’ll be back.

The cabin was very close to the road. I was expecting it to be off the road and behind a gate. The cabin roof needs repaired and the mattress covers need to be cleaned or replaced. Not a bad place, it works well for a stop over or place to stay while traveling. Not recommended for a place to stay multiple nights.
