About Anthony Lake Guard Station

Anthony Lake forms the source of Anthony Creek, named for William 'Doc' Anthony, an ambitious homesteader who came to Baker County in 1864. Anthony Lake Guard Station is a historic Civilian Conservation Corps log cabin built in the 1930s - one of only a few Forest Service cabins built of logs. What Guests Are Saying

Anthony Lake Guard Station offers a charming and rustic cabin experience in a beautiful area with several hiking trails and clean lakes for recreation. However, it needs thorough cleaning and updates, as some guests noted issues with cleanliness and wildlife. While the lack of modern amenities may not suit everyone, those seeking an authentic getaway will appreciate its cozy atmosphere.

This is not the place for someone wanting the latest shiny glass, metal, and plastic accommodations. This gem of a rustic old cabin is the real thing and deserves our love and care.

The guard station cabin could really use a thorough cleaning and updating on appliances, cleanliness beds, and flooring

Beautiful area!!! Several hikes of varying length and difficulty. Clean lakes to swim, play or fish in. Beautiful white granite, and deep blue skies! ---Also---Very little cell phone reception in the area. Only a random few spots- if you're lucky enough to find them. The cabin has no phone/web access- (which is fine, so long as you don't need to contact anyone.) Cabin itself was...rustic, charming, cozy. Didn't like the yellowjacket nest over the front door, the abundant flies or the pack rat in the wall. Nobody got stung, but seems a matter of time. The flies were annoying and disgusting, as was the rat, who was loudly chewing the walls at 4 am. It would be hard to keep such an old building free of all wildlife. Also, found out they totally rely on renters to clean everything! Not great-1- We paid lots in rent, so expected a service would clean some. -2- I squirm a little realizing the floors, shower, toilet, counters don't get properly cleaned. Others in my group will not return. So- be aware this is a cool old cabin that's been painted and updated some, but that it still has some annoying challenges.

This place is magical enough that I hesitate to write a review, as I don't want more people to know about it:)

Certainly rustic and showing its age, but still a unique historic building and a good home base for adventures in the area. It's nice to be so close to the lake and tons of hiking/skiing, and having a flush toilet and hot water is even better! Coffee pot, microwave, BBQ, and even a crockpot round out the well stocked kitchen (bring your own fancy drinkware if so inclined). Beds are plentiful but hard, and rooms are definitely not soundproofed but more spacious than expected. An armchair or second couch (only a futon in living space) wouldn't go amiss, but wrought-iron details on fireplace and curtains rods are a nice touch. Don't really have a view of the lake through the trees and parking areas can get quite busy, but still a beautiful location and very quiet at night. We'd definitely consider renting again! Bonus: the food and handcrafted cocktails at the relaxed atmosphere Starbottle were surprisingly good and everyone was very friendly!

I had another area cancel one of my reservations because the campground still had snow, and that makes sense. However, this campground did not notify me there was still snow. Although you could drive on the roads, the access into the cabin was still blocked. We did manage to slog our way up to the cabin from the road only to find that the previous occupants had not cleaned when they left the cabin. There were dishes in the drying rack, dirty utensils in the sink, open containers on the cabinet. Did not look like the carpet had been vacuumed, we started cleaning for us and then decided, cleaning after others was no way to start a vacation. So we packed back up and made it out through the snow again and left.
