Mud Lake Campground

The place itself where this group site is located is wonderful. The problem is that the group site comes in the form of an entire campground, for which the camp host did not have any signs to show we had the whole area reserved. So the entire weekend we had cars and RVs driving through our group site, trying to get set up for camping. We asked for some signs and made some more ourselves to show the place is reserved, which helped to decrease traffic. Finally, contrary to some reviews, this is not a group site with a few FF sites. The whole campground is the group site, and is reserved as one unit on Recreation.gov. Overall, we would go back, but signage needs to show people have this reserved.

This was a surprisingly sweet little campsite, directly across the street from a larger one with another lake. We didn't get the spot we reserved when we arrived because someone else was in it, but ended up in a better spot in the end so it worked out okay after the initial shuffle was sorted out. The mosquitoes were out in full force so bring bug spray. The camp sites are fairly spread out and it was quiet when we were there. We'd go back!

Wonderful little campground. Close to the Flow Trail at Anthony Lakes. If you stay on the weekend, the Star Bottle is a short walk. The walk to Anthony Lake was a bit far with paddle boards. The bugs were pretty bad in the late afternoon and evening.

Assuming electricity had recently been installed to the sites, because the surroundings looked like a work zone with stumps and downed trees. We prepaid the $30/ night online, however the notice board mentioned 50% discount for National Park Pass holders (which we own). Site 6 listed as tent site, but it was poorly planned and not a flat area (dipped in the middle). Site 5 is directly in front of the toilet building and the family that camped there had signed up for 2 tents, which the site could not accommodate. So they just moved to another ‘reserved’ site & placed a note on the post. All sites have a permanent ‘reserved’ post, however, half of them were never camped in. Sadly, many potential campers drove thru missing an opportunity to camp. And when we arrived to our 2 nights reserved spot there was a sign ‘available 1 night’ on our post! I spoke to the Host (who is across the street at Anthony Lake campsite) and he just said “whoops”. Sites back up to Forest Service Road 73, which luckily was not too busy. Yet, we did get the morning rumble of trucks working at Anthony Lakes across the street. Though I rate the campsite ‘fair’, it’s proximity to Anthony Lake and gorgeous hiking make it a nice spot, if you’re lucky enough to reserve a site. We also walked thru the Anthony Lake campsite and again saw many unused sites that had the permanent ‘reserve’ etched into the post. I would suggest that the host actually place names & dates for reserved on the posts, as we see in other campsites. (Hard to believe that many are ‘no shows’).

Great little campground. Appreciated the facilities (pit toilet and trash receptacles) were well kept up. It seemed the camp host was constantly ensure things were in good shape. While our camp site did not have a reservation tag on it when we arrived, it worked out as it was still available to us. We simply hung up our tag and it was flipped to reserved.
The A Lakes Saloon was amazing.
The bike trails were amazing.
Will come back another time for sure.

Great site, nice job on the "remodel". Very clean outhouse and campground. Maybe reduce price a little for tent only VS RV's.

We went at the end of August so the weather was great. It was very cold in the mornings and heated up during the day. We had a trailer thankfully. It was right across from Anthony lakes so that's where we went to fish and get in kayaks. Anthony lake was beautiful! The campsite at Mud Lake was clean, the negatives were that we were very close to our neighbors so privacy came only in our trailer, and we read dogs must be on a leash at all times, so we made sure to do that and it was a huge pain. Although quite a few others weren't with their dogs. All in all it was a beautiful view and we saw a ton of fish, didn't catch any though. Just lacked the privacy I like and wouldn't have brought our dog.

Clean, beautiful and quiet! Can’t wait to camp here again.

Number 2 was not a good spot for an RV. Beautiful and quiet there!
