North Waldo

Mother Nature did not allow a good visit this year. Evacuated in the middle of the night due to severe wind storm dropping trees in the campground. The Camp Host did an excellent job managing the event and getting campers out as quickly and smoothly as possible. Our stellar camp host was way more informative and responsive than the forest service about when and how to retrieve our gear when the forest was closed due to the severe conditions and fires elsewhere. Granted the NFS had plenty to take care of and I am grateful for their service and disaster mitigation. I hope to visit in a better year.

The lake is gorgeous! The crystal clear water was beautiful. Be warned that when people say there are a lot of mosquitos at the end of June they are being serious! Besides the bugs, the camp host was very nice and the site had a lot shade. There is no water available at any campgrounds around the lake.

Waldo is a beautiful lake. It’s quiet on the weekdays. The mosquitoes are brutal, however, so plan for that.

It was a beautiful campground. Sites not as close to water as expected. The bathrooms smelled horrendous to the point of gagging and burning eyes. The mosquitoes were relentless, they didn’t care that we had 40% Deet bug spray or 7 citronella candles placed around the campfire and tables. After 2 days each person averaged 80 mosquito bites. After applying so much bug spray while there the showers we had when arriving home were so refreshing.

This is an awesome camp for those with fishing, kayaking, or water play on your daily agenda. Sites are spaced apart and generous, with terrific pines and winding trails. The camp is located to a few beaches and entry points via trails, so everything is accessible while feeling wild and remote. Bring bug spray! If you really are tasty to the mosquitos, bring netting for your camp and body.

Lovely area, I can't wait to come back next year. In spite of the mosquitoes it was still a very pleasant experience. Other campers were respectful and the host kept the bathrooms as clean as vault toilets can be. I docked a star because the website says there's water available, but when I arrived there was a poorly constructed and barely visible sign indicating that no potable water was available. That's important info when the nearest store is 40+ minutes away.

The campground was nice and the lake was spectacular. We camped for two nights. The wooded sites with views of the lake were quite pleasant and the campground host was friendly. Mosquitoes were bad around dusk,. It was very quiet at night, and the night sky was clear. You can easily see the Milky Way.

We brought our kayaks and paddled around the entire lake over the course of two days. The water is pristine, with many shades of blue, and the surrounding mountains are beautiful. It's nice for swimming, too, if you don't mind the cold. We are looking forward to another stay.

Waldo is our favorite escape from the city. The camp host, Doug, is very friendly and helpful! Thanks again for another wonderful experience!

Close to perfect experience, except we forgot ice. The bugs were about a 6/10 IMO. The mosquitos are there, but not the worst I have ever seen, not intolerable, nor a vacation-ruiner. Potable water had just become available. Campfires were still permitted, wood available $5/bundle at the entrance. There were also lots of rounds of wood cut from downed trees cleared I had fun splitting.
