Well other then the fact the bathrooms were locked the couple times I tried and the no campfire restriction the place was awesome. Nice tall trees and a little bit of privacy from the neighbors, gorgeous lake and really like the serenity and quiet.

The most pristine incredible lake to kayak on. With no motorized vehicles and poor fishing, it is a kayakers utopia. Campgrounds were great with wonderful campground managers. Very helpful. Jarrod at ShadowBay was excellent and helped us find the perfect site. Fans need to be repaired/replaced in big outhouses to decrease ammonia smell that is very strong. Waldo Lake is amazing. Thank you for preserving and managing this gem

Very well run and quiet. Very good lake access for boating or walking along the shore, and close to the small islands.

Great hiking & mt biking trails. Nice stand up paddle boarding when it’s not too windy. Remember to bring water for drinking and washing

Our trip to Waldo Lake was so smokey that the campground was nearly empty. It is always a crapshoot and I guess we lost this year. Cold nighttime temperatures and pretty much smoke much of the time. Doug the campground host is a prince of a guy.

such a beautiful forest and well maintained campground. it was a bummer because campers were having campfires when it was prohibited. with signs posted all over the campground and in the national forest in general, it is a shame that the campground host had to babysit full adults.

My experience at North Waldo Campground was wonderful. the bathrooms were so clean and well-stocked it was very comforting. Everett I'm in the days I was camping that the bathrooms were dirty or out of toilet paper.

I would have given it a 5 star, but it was so smoky and I couldn't use the fire pit, which I understand why. It would have been awsome under better conditions.

Upon arriving, we were a little worried since it was quite smokey. But the camp host was very friendly and helpful and told us about the fluctuation in the winds at different times if the day and that it would not be smokey the whole time. He also answered all our questions about navigating around as it was our first time there. The dock to paddle out was right close from the site and we really had a good time kayaking and exploring around the lake some as well as hiking around. The smoke cleared the second day with increased wind which didn’t interfere much with kayaking as we had thought. The bathrooms were very clean and pleasant to use. The composting technology is pretty impressive. The camp site was spacious and beautiful. The lake is breathtakingly gorgeous and so blue… Hope to be back again soon although reading about the declining quality of the water with human use made me wonder if we need to protect it for a few years so that it can recover from all the damage we are doing to it…

From Oakridge, follow Hwy 58 east for 25 miles to the Waldo Lake Road (FS Road 5897). Follow Waldo Lake Road for 11 miles to FS Road 5898. Follow FS Road 5898 to FS Road 5895. Continue on FS Road 5895 to North Waldo Campground.
North Waldo Campground is accessible via Hwy 58, which is approximately 25 miles from Oakridge.
Elevation: 1659 feet
76 mi drive to downtown Oakridge (about 1 hr 58 min)
Policies & Rules
General
- Generator and chainsaw use are prohibited in undeveloped areas around Waldo Lake.
- Generator use is allowed in developed campgrounds--quiet hours are posted.
- Boat motor use is restricted to electric motors only.
- Emergency landing only for float planes
- 14 day boat moorage limit. People must be staying at Waldo Lake while mooring their boats.
- Islands are day use only, no overnight camping.
- Don't Move Firewood: Please protect Pacific Northwest forests by preventing the spread of invasive species. Firewood can carry insects and diseases that can threaten the health of our western forests. You can make a difference by obtaining and burning your firewood near your camping destination.
