Waxmyrtle Campground is a beloved annual destination for many, offering clean, spacious, and private sites with beautiful surroundings. Visitors enjoy the peaceful atmosphere, proximity to the beach, and helpful camp hosts, although some note noise from nearby ATV activity and the need for improved maintenance in certain areas. We have a large (10x17) tent that we bring camping until we finally buckle down and buy ourselves a trailer. The two sites our friends and I got were supposed to be side-by-side according to the map, but it really was a small trail that we found through a hedge. The site we had originally chosen was too small for our tent, so we swapped with our friends who have an Aliner. Walking the campground, we noted a few sites that would be our first picks for next time, and others that were even smaller than the one we were staying on. Also, we had our kayaks and it worked to walk through a campsite across from us to access the river, but not after it was occupied. It would be nice to have a dedicated trail to the river NOT through a campsite.

The campsite was very small with little privacy. Even though I could easily hear my campsite neighbors, it was surprisingly quiet at night. The bathroom was clean and the campsite didn’t have any debris from previous guests. I think if you’re only looking to stay at your campsite for a few hours and to sleep at, this site works fine. But if you like to relax and take in nature during the day at your site, look elsewhere.

This was our first time at this campground and camping in the Florence area. We were concerned with OHV noise and crowd (partying) and loved that this campground did not allow OHV's. We checked out the other campgrounds in the area (Lagoon, Driftwood, Siltcoos) and they were either full of OHV's or too close to the dunes/noise. Our first site was #37 and appeared to be shared with the adjacent site- luckily it was vacant and we had the place to ourselves. We moved the next day and most of the back-in sites have great privacy among the tall brush. Hosts kept the bathrooms clean and no parties/drinking while we were there. If I were to go again, I will stay at one of the sites closest to the river with direct access to the Waxmyrtle Trail (highly recommended!)

Whoever designed this campground was an idiot. the sites are at bizarre angles requiring most vehicles to go the wrong way on a long, narrow, loop road to be able to get into the site. Other than that, nice camping.

In todays covid world we have learned to make plans way in advance. The last two years that we have stayed in Waxmyrtle CG, there were ALWAYS some sites that were first come first served. This year we counted on that and arrived August 2nd, at a normally slow time, to get a campsite for 8 days (over the labor day weekend). Imagine our chagrin when the camp host told us that ALL SITES were now reservation only. We were told that the change was made two weeks before (in the middle of the current camping season.) We were only able to secure a campsite for 4 days, and then had to move. There was literally no campsites available near Waxmyrtle to go to. We had to move to the parking lot of the nearby Indian Casino, just to find a place to park our RV. I can understand making changes, but it would seem a much better, and fairer way would be to make that decision at the beginning of the year. Not when someone has been out camping for awhile, in different states and without notification of this immediate change. I am registered with Recreation.gov and no email or any print notification was found that could have prepared us for this extreme change.
