What Guests Are Saying
Waxmyrtle Campground is a beloved annual destination for many, offering clean, spacious, and private sites with beautiful surroundings. Visitors enjoy the peaceful atmosphere, proximity to the beach, and helpful camp hosts, although some note noise from nearby ATV activity and the need for improved maintenance in certain areas. Overall, it’s a great spot for families and outdoor enthusiasts, with plenty of recreational opportunities nearby.

Very friendly park host this year. Infrastructure continues to decay; women's bathroom sink was out of service a while and many water spigots are out of service and water can be very metallic from others. Never the less, great location and lots to do. Many sites are very private, others not so much.

Site 16 was an awesome spot with a beautiful climbing tree. I liked it was close to the restroom. And because the wall of the bathroom was visible from the site there was a light shining towards the campsite, this helped with not having a lantern. And my kiddos who appreciated the extra light.

We've been camping here--specifically site #33--for well over 20 years, and while we've always been able to hear the ATVs in the distance (understandable), it's been very quiet and peaceful at the campground itself. The last few years, however, the campground has become basically overflow from the nearby ATV campgrounds farther to the west. It's much louder in terms of generators for hours on end, late night drunken yelling/screaming, loud music, speeding vehicles and ATVs in the campground, and general disrespect for other campers as well as the facilities themselves.
If you're an ATV person, you'll find Waxmyrtle quite nice. If you come for peace and relaxation--or that's how you remember Waxmyrtle--you will likely be disappointed. We'll probably start looking for other options next year.

We have come her every summer for 47 years, and love it. The access for our sand rail (which we must park at Driftwood with family members, since there is no direct access from Waxmyrtle) is not great, but we love the lush growth and privacy of each camp site which is why we keep coming back. the host this year was vry special and realy worked hard to keep the bathrooms stocked and clean.

Reservation system is confusing. No placards indicating whether sites are reserved or open. No camp host to ask. If we had wanted to stay longer there is no way to determine if it’s possible.

We have always loved Waxmyrtle, woukd recommend it to any camper to stay here. However, you need to know to keep your stuff tidy. Last trip, we settled on a spot near the end of the loop near the exit. At approx 2am we has some valuable gear stolen while we were asleep.
