Off the beaten path, this minimally developed campground along Canton Creek features riverside picnic sites, drinking water spigots, and a vault restroom facility. Nearby, there are several outstanding undeveloped swimming holes along both Canton and Steamboat Creeks. Canton Creek and Steamboat Creek are closed to all angling. Just 3 miles downstream from Scaredman, the North Umpqua River offers world-class fly-fishing.

What Guests Are Saying

Scaredman Recreation Site offers a beautiful and spacious campground with well-maintained sites and clean facilities, making it a great spot for family and friends. The quiet, remote location and nearby swimming area enhance the experience, with many visitors returning year after year. However, some improvements are needed, including better water access and maintenance of the bathroom facilities.

Campsites were nice and spread out and well maintained. Bathroom had plenty of TP. Large trash bins. No camp host. Great little swimming spot just across the street of the campground. No cell service for AT&T.

I have enjoyed Scaredman with my friends and family every summer for my entire life. It used to be the best place to camp! Some things have changed over the years that have made it less enjoyable. The water faucets have been closed off. No camp fires allowed. All of the campsites seem to have gotten smaller with big boulders moved in. No garbage cans at each camp site, just one large dumpster. It's still so beautiful and I'm sure we will still make the trip there each year even with the changes.

It's a great camp site, but there are a couple of issues. It would be nice if the issue with the water could be fixed. The main issue is the left side bathroom door does not shut/lock and it has been this way for the last few years. In the last couple of year's, our party has spent hundreds of dollars reserving many sites in this campground. There is no reason this broken bathroom door should be an issue. Please get these fixed.

This campground is beautiful and wild. The sites are spaced far enough apart to provide privacy, and the surrounding forest has bautiful huge trees.
It was a really nice touch to arrive and see my name nicely printed on a sign by our site :)

Quiet, more remote campground (very little traffic). Sites were clean in in good repair. Enjoyed Canton Creek and its nearby swimming hole!

This is our favorite place to camp! Even when we just come up for the day, we always visit the area.
