About Fan Creek Recreation Site

Want to camp? Camping season is generally May-September, with Alder Glen and Elk Bend remaining open through the weekend following General Western Oregon Coast 2nd Season for elk. During months with reduced sunlight, potable water may be turned off. Be prepared to bring your own wash and drinking water. Reserve a site at one of our four campgrounds on recreation.gov or pay when you arrive for non-reserved campsites using the Recreation.gov Mobile App. You must download before you reach the site since there is no cell reception in the drainage.    A place to get away from the hustle and bustle of the electronic age. Fan Creek is one of the Bureau of Land Management’s middle campgrounds within the Nestucca River Recreation Area. The campground sits along the Nestucca River National Back Country Byway and newly designated Nestucca Wild and Scenic River . The Byway takes travelers on a slow, leisurely route that winds through Oregon's Coast Range. The Nestucca River is renowned for fishing opportunities and beauty.

Everything was as good as legally allowed. Not the campsite fault the campfire ban was in effect. Peaceful and beautiful.

Fan Creek is nice for a getaway from city life but the sites are stacked on one another making it not as peaceful as one might enjoy. The entire site of Fan Creek is well taken care of and host was nice. If you like close proximity to others- no qualms.

Everything went perfect, check-in, weather and a clean site. Camp host was right there when we checked-in and quite helpful, answering out questions and wishing us an enjoyable stay.

Camp host is a very discriminative! worst experience ever!

Never had I ever had a worst camping experience. The host was extremely rude and disrespectful.
We were out enjoying our camping trip like anyone else would. Had music playing and we were eating and just having a good time.
Camp host stops by and tells us at 8:00 pm to turn it down and keep quiet but quiet hours aren’t even until 10pm!! We were respectful and turned down the music where you couldn’t really hear it in the background.
10pm rolls around and we’re just gathered around the picnic table talking and the host comes again, blinding us with his flashlight, to threaten us that he’s going to call the cops, for noise nuisance even though we weren’t being loud. We weren’t partying or being obnoxious, just trying to enjoy the ONE night we were there for with old friends we’ve haven’t seen in a long time. All we were going was talking and catching up.
We were the only campsite that had a group with people of color camping there. We were spoken to in a disrespectful manner when we had first arrived and asked the host where our campsite was located. We didn’t let it bother us as we were just arriving and wanted to enjoy our camping trip.
Turns out, the campsite next to us, who had a confederate flag up, had complained to him about us? They didn’t want any music being played AT ALL. I’m sorry but you’re out camping! Some people are going to bring their music to listen to and enjoy!
Nonetheless, when we had pointed out that they had a FIRE going on, the camp host did ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. He ALLOWED THEM TO HAVE A FIRE PIT with CHARCOAL even with the fire prohibition. Instead he just went over there and spoke to them very very friendly compared to us and didn’t tell them to put out their fire.
It’s obvious that we were treated differently and were discriminated against. I’m sure if we had a fire going he would have immediately called the police on us.
Reporting this to the BLM.
