About Alder Glen Recreation Site

Want to camp? Reserve your spot now! Camping season is generally May-September, with Alder Glen and Elk Bend remaining open through the weekend following General Western Oregon Coast 2nd Season for elk. During months with reduced sunlight, potable water may be turned off. Be prepared to bring your own wash and drinking water. Reserve a site at one of our four campgrounds on recreation.gov or pay when you arrive for non-reserved campsites using the Recreation.gov Mobile App. You must download before you reach the site since there is no cell reception in the drainage.  A place to get away from the hustle and bustle of the electronic age. Alder Glen is the Bureau of Land Management’s eastern most campground in the Nestucca River Recreation Area. The campground sits along the Nestucca River National Back Country Byway and newly designated Nestucca Wild and Scenic River . The Byway takes travelers on a slow, leisurely route that winds through Oregon's Coast Range. The Nestucca River is renowned for fishing opportunities and beauty.

We have stayed here with friends the same weekend for three summers in a row and we love it. The area is always quiet, the amount of traffic is pretty low, the sound of the river is soothing. We enjoy hiking, playing in the water, catching crayfish, exploring the woods, and best of all, being left alone as there's no cell reception! We intend to keep coming here each summer.

Nice quiet little campsite, super thankful it was open during Elk season! River is nice and loud so it kind of drowns out people around you. Do your research ahead of time, site one can fit a 30 ft trailer, some can fit smaller and some can only fit tents.

Left early due to the poor accommodations this is a remote campsite where they don’t think that they need to put TP in the restrooms. All the restrooms had no toilet paper in them. There’s no trash receptacles for us to put our garbage in.

Campsite was cleaned daily, but the only issue were the abundant amount of bug in the bathroom right by campsite 10.

No fee envelopes, so could not pay for site. There is a QR code to scan for online payment, but the nearest cell coverage is 10 miles away. A few days later, a ranger came by and said that, since we were vets, we did not need to pay. Very confusing.
