What Guests Are Saying
Hager Mountain Lookout offers an adventurous experience, particularly in winter, requiring snowshoes and navigation aids for the challenging hike. The cozy cabin, equipped with supplies and a functional wood stove, provides a welcoming refuge after the journey. Despite some concerns about high winds and minor issues like mice and equipment malfunctions, many visitors find the effort to reach the lookout well worth it and plan to return.

Excellent. There is a bit of a mice issue but it was otherwise amazing as always. I'd recommend sterilizing anything as there are mice droppings and they did get into our food overnight. We had snow from just after the trail head to the lookout, but less than in a previous visit. I highly recommend making a stop at the Cowboy Dinner Tree.
There are plenty of games and things to keep you busy!

What a great experience! Last mile was difficult and had to break trail through deep snow. Thank you for keeping this available for the public to rent!

Second Lookout adventure for me. Absolutely love it every time. There always seems to be a little lack of information going into it but that is part of the adventure. Called Rangers prior to trip and they were very pleasant and helpful on the phone. I really wouldn't change anything and hope you/they don't. It's suppose to be an adventure, not a Sunday stroll or 5 star hotel.
Thx, Bradd

In the winter, please check with the Silver Lake Ranger District for Snow conditions to determine the best method of access prior to departure. The rental season begins and ends during periods when snow levels fluctuate, making walking or driving access questionable.

Be prepared for winter conditions and the possibility of having to camp out on the trail overnight. Let others know of your travel plans, and carry communication, water and food. The trail to the lookout is uphill and can be very strenuous depending on snow conditions. Arrive early and allow extra time for bad weather or losing the route. Several groups have become disorientated and required search and rescues teams to assist them in the past. Plan ahead and be prepared! |
