Pine Rest Campground was excellent. Campsites are very well maintained, although during summer heat the restrooms were nearly toxic. A bit more frequent cleaning or maybe something they can put in the pit to mitigate this. Thx.

We reserved a site and showed up with our reservation in hand. Someone else was in our site and ready to go toe to toe. We didn't want a fight, so we went to the next campground over that had a camp host. That host explained that there was nothing to be done about someone who is in a site they should be in and refuses to leave. According to him, enough people know there is no enforcement of squatting in sites so it happens frequently. It's ridiculous. Concessionaires need to invest in a better system so that people who make reservations actually get to use the campsite.

I love Pine Rest campground. I've camped there a number of years, often more than once. I spent 4 nights at site 6. It's true the river trail goes right through the campsite, but in my opinion it gives you the opportunity to meet everyone hiking or fishing along the river! The site is on the Metolius and I could hear it churning and gurgling all night (and all day!). Wild flowers were blooming, camping neighbors had great campground ethics and were interesting. It rained a full day and night, but I didn't mind. I did spend some snack time under the historic shelter though. I spotted fish, deer, river otters, dippers, osprey, cinnamon teal, and plenty of other birds. I walked to the Camp Sherman store - nice loop upstream on one side of the river and down the other. It's also a great hike downriver to the hatchery, and a short drive to the historic (lower) trailhead up Black Butte, both of which I did. Outhouse was clean and the host was helpful. Don't forget to bring water!

Beautiful spot by the river, but zero privacy from other campsites. You can hear every conversation in the sites next to you. I had a rooftop tent but my parking spot was shared with another campsite, so my tent was right next to their truck and there was constant activity. If sites were spaced out with some vegetation in between it would be a lot better, but I won’t return here.

It was the 3rd time I have stayed at that campground. Absolutely love it there. It's at a georgous bend in the river, great fishing spot, and close enough you can walk right up to Camp Sherman store! Lots of hiking,
lots of, lots of fishing.

This was a beautiful, quiet, tent-only campground situated right on the Metolius River. Large ponderosa pines surround the campsites which are very spacious. There is easy access to the hiking trail along the river with a distance of 1.7 mi to the Camp Sherman store and (in the opposite direction) 3.5 mi to the Wizard Falls Fish Hatchery (although the trail goes quite some distance beyond either of these points. Unfortunately, the trail is not well-marked through the Pine Rest campground, so that hikers tend to walk right through any campsite, occupied or not. It would be useful if hikers could be circumvented through the parking area with clear marking that would avoid walking through campsites.
