A yearly extented family camping spot. This year's trip was early August. Despite a few yellow jackets it was close to perfect. This year there was no camp host and the toliet was a bit messy the first few days. But then they remand clean for the rest of our 9 day stay.
Camp sites are large and usually clean. Large Ponderosa pine keep most sites shady and offer great hammock locations. Several sites are first come first serve, the rest are popular and reserve early. There is not water within Gorge Campground, but there are taps at Smiling River. Area offers catch and release fly fishing, hiking and bike riding. Only two miles to the Camp Sherman store.

Super clean campground, great hiking trail along river (but look out for ground nests of wasps), enjoying visiting Wizard Falls, plenty of toilet paper in the outhouse!

Gorge is one of my most favored campgrounds! How can you beat being surrounded by majestic Ponderosa Pines and being soothed by the calming sounds of the Metolius River?
We love the quiet of this area and the simiple no frills atmosphere that allows us to focus on Nature's beauty and glory.

Metolius River next to the campsite is the best experience, as well as hiking along the River.

One of our favorite campgrounds, we annual gather in Gorge. Usually clean restroom (this year there was a camp host issue and the cleanliness varied from day to day.) Camp sites are wide and usually clean. Good bike riding. Water is not availabke in Gorge, but there are spigots in nearby campgrounds.
Verizon coverage is non-existent (text onky), ATT has much better coverage here.

First time for us to stay at this campground. We have camped at the Metolius River many times but first time at this campground. Although we did not have a site on the river the site we had (#12) was large and not very close to others. The restrooms were very clean and kept that way. There is no water at this campground but for us that was not an issue. We took the hike from the campground to the Fish Hatchery. Beautiful hike a bit of a rough trail in parts due to lack of people using this trail. Also went from the campground to bike to Suttle Lake on the Lake Trial from Camp Sherman. The campground was very quiet and peaceful during our stay.

Nothing beats the Metolius for camping.

Beautiful river with campgrounds along the river with great hiking trails. You need to visit the fish hatchery, the Head of the Metolius, and the Camp Sherman store. There are great trails for mountain biking, and some long roads for the road cyclists.
Flyfishing only and the fish are picky eaters. Been fishing and camping here for over 50 years and we visit it often every year.
Water is very cold and even though a few visitors try to swim, they don't stay in very long. In other words, it is not a great place to swim, but Suttle Lake and Round Lake are nearby and perfect for swimming and cooling off.
