About South Shore

South Shore Campground is located along Suttle Lake, shaded by Douglas fir and Ponderosa pine. One section of the camp sits on the shoreline, while the other is nestled on a hillside. Most sites have lake views. The 3,400-foot elevation and the lake breezes make South Shore Campground a comfortable summertime destination.

What Guests Are Saying

South Shore Campground at Suttle Lake is cherished by many visitors for its beautiful scenery, spacious campsites, and family-friendly atmosphere. Campers enjoy the lake for swimming, hiking, and fishing, with many returning year after year. However, concerns about road conditions, restroom cleanliness, and pest issues like yellow jackets have been noted, suggesting room for improvement in maintenance and facilities.

One major gripe about South Shore campground at Suttle Lake.

The roads are trash! Potholes galore, feeble patching attempts. Taking a nice trailer in there is getting hazardous, with the potholes the trailer is bouncing about, stuff inside flying everywhere. As this is a federal site, being a disabled veteran makes me wonder where my federal tax dollars are being used, as it's sure NOT keeping the campground roads in decent shape.

Otherwise, we love camping at South Shore, have done so now for almost 50 years. Getting harder every year to actually GET a spot with all the new campers from the valley and CA now wanting this campground. It would be a much better experience if the roads were maintained properly in spite of the negatives.

Very beautiful campsite, well maintained. The bathroom closest to us though did run out of toilet paper 1.5 days before leaving good thing we had some and wipes. Overall restrooms were clean. Good swimming spots along the hiking trail.
Take a propane fire pit, we were the only ones that took propane fire pit those nights lol and camp fires were banned. Overall great experience my kids loved it. Will def go next year if possible.

Such a great spot! Wish we could’ve had a fire but even without it I am still rating 5 stars! You get such great spaces w. Picnic tables/ fire pits! The only downside for me is how far some bathrooms were! But still some amazing views! Close to the water and some great day use areas!

I camped at site 21. This is one of several sites in this campground with little or no shade so I recommend that you take an awning or canopy. I have been camping at Suttle Lake for several years and it is still one of my favorite places. Unfortunately, I have also seen the continuing degradation of the campgrounds run by the Forest Service: the roads are broken and full of potholes, leaking faucets and outhouses that aren't emptied often enough.

This was our 36th year of camping with large family group! We have very disappointed with the toilets the last 2 years! Filled to brim! When complaints to camp host were ignored or no resolution to get someone to empty, they finally just locked the door so we had to hike to another. #23 south shore toilet area specifically. The camp host only offered to pour more water into them, which would overflow it! It was disgusting, unsanitary, and smelled awful throughout surrounding areas. There is still alot of camp season left, we have the hassle of your website each year in order to even get our sites, then we encounter this issue! We had 10 sites and seriously considering moving somewhere else! Not happy at all! Do better with our money!

Stayed at site #7. Not right on the water but pretty close. Still a small hike down. Not an ideal site for a few reasons. The entire campsite (minus a couple small areas) is on a slope. Sleeping on a. Slope in a tent can be tough. Combine that with no shade. This campsite is entirely exposed to other campers and nothing to keep the sun off you. The only shade is at top of the site next to the road, about 30 feet from the heavy picnic table. Beautiful partial view of the lake. Fishing from this bank is difficult only in that it’s completely flat for a long ways out and provides no structure or change lake floor. Nowhere for fish to hide. Good for swimming though. Honestly I would pick any other site than this particular . I would pick another campground for bank fishing though.
