About Lizard Creek Campground

The Lizard Creek Campground is located in the northern portion of Grand Teton National Park (GTNP) and provides a convenient basecamp for campers taking day trips to both Grand Teton and Yellowstone National Parks. This 60-site campground sits on the northern shore of Jackson Lake and offers access to the lake waters and views of the northern Teton Mountain Range. The area is frequented by various park wildlife, large and small as well as a variety of bird species. This Campground is normally one of the last campgrounds to open and first to close for the season in the park and can often see quickly changing weather patterns. The Lizard Creek Campground provides the perfect location for visitors to GTNP looking to avoid the crowds and who don’t need more than the basic amenities.

Host was helpful and friendly. GC slips were adequate. The payment in the driveway was in terrible condition--many big potholes. Needs repair.

Camp hosts were wonderful; friendly, helpful, and I saw them checking up on things early in the day and late at night. Bathrooms were also very clean!

Campsites are somewhat close together but will have some privacy. Late August is a great time to go, as there were zero mosquitos!

Note: if you want to take a shower, Colter Bay is a quick drive away (15-20 minutes) and has very well kept up showers for $5 per person.

A quiet, peaceful retreat with wonderful camp hosts. The sites were clean and spacious and the bear boxes were big enough to hold most everything from our vehicle (not shared with other campers). We stayed two nights in the lower loop (site 37) and one night in the upper loop (57). The lower loop is definitely quieter, but everyone was respectful of quiet hours.

Teton and Yellowstone campgrounds are hit or miss. Some are too busy with RVs. At others, your site is so small that you can hear the people in the next site breathing. Lizard Creek is a welcome respite from these others. The sites are relatively spacious, and the campground is quiet. Much better for tent camping than any of the others in the Tetons.

Nice campground and great location for Yellowstone or Teton, while still a little off the crazy crowded circuit of either park.
The sites are well shaded but the sites are close together and the “social trails” mean people wander through all the time. Bathrooms were adequately clean, the water supply was easy, the trash and recycling accessible, and the bear boxes commodious and sturdy.

Really enjoyed this spot- it felt away from crowds while still giving good access to the park. Campground hosts and other guests were friendly and our kids enjoyed going down to the Lake from our campsite to play.

We were cordially greeted by the camp master. Our site (23) was clean, wooded and well equipped with table, bear box and fire ring. We easily fit both our tents comfortably. We spent the first 2 days exploring and hiking in Teton. Then because Yellowstone was so close we spent a day there as well. I had been to both before but was the first visit for my daughter and son in law.weather was great, no smoke , blue skies and comfortable temps 70s day and 40s at night.

Camp hosts were nice. Spot was as listed. Couldn't use the sink kitchen because it was flooded and not able to be used which was the reason I booked the campground rather than rough camping at a rustic spot. So not having the sink was a big let down. The. bathrooms weren't the cleanest, but flush toilets are better than pit toilets. The bear boxes were nice and helpful if you're tent camping.

I have 5G with Verizon and had 0-1 bar at the site. Was able to get service on the entrance road, but if you need service at your site there are other places in Grand Teton closer to Jackson that have sites with 3-4 bars.

General

  • The maximum stay permitted at Lizard Creek Campground is 14 nights, and the maximum cumulative stay between all park campgrounds is 30 nights.  A maximum of 2 campsites can be reserved per customer per night.  A maximum sliding window of up to 7 days can be reserved beyond the 6 month rolling window.  Day of reservations are allowed at this campsite through recreation.gov, but not on a first-come, first-served basis at the campground itself.  Discounts must be applied at time of securing reservation.
  • This is bear country! Food and bear attractants must not be left unattended at any time (ie, coolers, trash, beverage containers, cooking utensils, health and beauty aids, etc.). All food or attractants must be stored in a hard-sided vehicle or in your site’s provided bear-proof storage box when not being consumed or prepared.
  • Camping accomodations are pet friendly. However, pets cannot be left unattended and are always required to be under control, and on a six-foot leash. Dog runners and pens are not allowed. All pet food and bowls must be treated as a bear attractant and must be properly stored and cannot be left unattended. Please review Campground & National Park Pet Regulations. https://www.nps.gov/grte/planyourvisit/pets.htm
  • The maximum length for a trailer or RV is 25 feet. Parking dimensions vary widely at this campground, please take care when making reservations, to ensure that the site you are reserving will accomodate your equipment. Parking is allowed only in designated parking areas or site pads. Moving barrier logs is prohibited. All vehicles must fit completely on parking pads. Vehicles protruding into roadway will not be accepted. If travelling with a trailer or 5th wheel and the combined length of the towing vehicle and trailer/5th wheel is greater than the length of the driveway, the trailer/5th wheel will have to be diconnected in order to fit in the campsite. In these instances, campers must reserve a "Double Driveway" parking spot or a driveway wide enough to accommodate both the trailer and the vehicle.
  • Generators are permitted, in the first loop only (sites 48-63) between the hours of 8a.m. and 8p.m. and cannot be left unattended.
  • Maximum one vehicle per site.
  • Maximum two tents per site.
  • Maximum of six occupants per site. This rule is strictly enforced, as we are a smaller campground. If you desire to book a campsite that will accommodate larger groups or gatherings of more than 6 people, please explore options at other campgrounds in the area.
  • Water Hookup Fee: The Utility fee is imposed on all lodging and camping products to defer the higher cost of providing water and sewer in the remote locations in which we operate. The amount of this fee is determined by taking the difference in the cost of providing these services less the comparable cost of similar services in local areas. This fee is reviewed annually and approved by the National Park Service.
  • Fires may not be left unattended and must be contained within the provided fire ring. Fires may be prohibited based upon local restrictions during seasons with elevated fire danger.
  • Only dead and downed wood may be collected. Chainsaws are prohibited.
  • Parking is allowed only in designated parking areas or site pads. Moving barrier logs is prohibited. All vehicles must fit completely on parking pads. Vehicles protruding into roadway will not be accepted.
  • All sites must be left in a clean and welcoming state for the incoming campers with all fires dead out and fire rings free of bear attractants.
  • Roadways are narrow at this campground and backing into certain sites can be difficult. Please look at the pictures provided and read all warnings and need to know info about your site.
