Sheridan Lake

Beautiful sites especially on the lake. Even saw a helicopter retrieving water for a local fire. Close to town.

Beautiful sites place was super clean, great view of the lake

This is a beautiful location in the Black Hills, and we loved being at this campsite overlooking the lake. The camp hosts were helpful and friendly and made an effort to connect with people. The tent area was modestly uneven, but definitely workable. The picnic table was beginning to rot in places; the wood needs to be replaced soon.

The campsites in the Woodsey loop anyhow were well spaced-out, but this campground's forest understory is mostly grass, so there's not much visual privacy between campsites.

The main challenge was noise at times, especially given the almost nonexistent forest understory. We woke up one morning to someone operating a remote-controlled boat near the campground shore, and it was downright obnoxiously loud, especially at 7:30am.

On the other hand, at one point during our stay there was a nearby forest fire (that was quickly contained), and an S-64 helicopter made quite a number of trips to fill up with water at Sheridan Lake that afternoon. That was a real treat to watch, and I'm thankful for resources like that which can provide so much assistance for firefighters on the ground.

Other concerns: first, the reservation system does not show (at all) the first come first served campsites. So if you reserve a site, the map you're viewing may not accurately show what other sites are nearby. For some locations in the campground, this is a pretty significant issue, but for others it's very minor. Second, the checkout time shown when making a reservation was NOT the same as the checkout time the camp host told us, which almost messed up our plans. The campground staff asked us, "did you see that online?", to which we affirmatively replied. He then told us we could go ahead and stick with what we had been told online (and in all of our reservation emails!).

This campground seems to be huge but we couldn't tell. It was quiet, clean and very nice.

We had the greatest time! Even with the fire ban, we really enjoyed our stay. We camped in the Smokey loop. Lots of trees and super clean bathrooms. Best part of our stay was meeting the host, Veva! She was so friendly, helpful and very pleasant to chat with!

The campground is well kept. My spot was marked with my name and the dates of my stay when I arrived; very reassuring. The bathroom was clean.

Very safe, clean, quiet campground. A little far, but excellent amenities on site. I was a solo female traveler here in a hammock tent and felt perfectly safe. The owners appeared to be female as well. I was able to purchase wood on site. Everything felt calm and serene. I wasn't worried about dangerous animals or people in the area.

Always love staying at Sheridan Lake. Beautiful campground. Great location in the Black Hills.

This is a great location to visit all you want to see in the Black Hills. Nice spacious sites and very clean bathrooms.

Prices raised for a slab to park you trailer and then added additional charges for vehicles. Nickle and diming campers in rural South Dakota. If you are staying in the campground that should include access to the beach instead of requiring additional fees.
