Sheridan Lake

Love this place! Great way to start our Black Hills vacation for a night or two.

High expectations and low satisfaction. It would of saved me a lot of time and trouble had the check in kiosk attendants would have said we are wondering if you will fit before I went in and got tangled in the trees on the narrow road and a camp spot claimed to be for a 60 foot vehicle. After getting unstuck and coming back around and saying, We wondered if you would fit. I have a 57 foot truck and trailer. They continued to tell me they had pull through spots and when we asked if they thought I would fit we were told don’t know never seen it. The person who assisted me getting unstuck said he had been camping here for 30 plus years said it used to be only tents now he sees people tearing up their equipment and trees trying to get in there and then getting out. WE DID NOT END UP STAYING HERE. We are still trying to get a refund.

Well.... the campground was nice. Id stay there again however spot # 3 is the absolute worst and I would not stay at that spot again. Its not a tent camp spot no matter what the reservation site says. Rv or camper only. I asked to be moved to a more "tent friendly" spot but was told id have to pay for it. (there were at least 20 open spots) All i wanted to do was trade. We got everyone's head lights coming in after dark. All the vehicle noise. Anytime the wind blew from the south the wonderful stench of the bathroom and garbage floated through our site. I'm not from there and didnt know what to expect but I'd definitely stay at the campground again but site 3 is not for me

The lake was full of wake boarders blasting music no one wants to hear and seeing how close they can drive to other boats. They need someone patrolling the lake. I talked to three other fishermen who said the same thing. A lake that small should be a no wake lake.

A lot of the sites are marginal for a 28’ 5th wheel so if you have anything other than a tiny camper do your homework or you’ll be parked on a mound. Access to the shoreline for fishing in the campground is pretty limited and the area where there is access is very shallow and weedy.

The site we had (SMOK #9) was excellent. Large, flat and fairly easy to back to into. The bathrooms were the cleanest I have ever seen in a NF campground and I have stayed in at least 100 of them.

Heidi and David are excellent camp hosts!! They were friendly and very accommodating! The campsite was very clean and ready to use when we got there. Very close proximity to the bathroom. The only critique i have would be when you book your spot it doesn't tell you whether it's at the north or south part of the lake. Will definitely be going back!!

Such a beautiful site. Everything was so well kept and clean. Literally no problem. We will be back.

We stay here every year. Wonderful place to camp. The lake is beautiful. Peaceful place. Lots of open areas and wildlife. Water spickets are far apart but doable. Hosts are always friendly

Excellent camp group for those able to camp without electric hook up. We had a generator and some solar. No cell coverage, but you can easily travel to where it is available (Hill City). Great hikes, swimming and boat launch available.

Beautiful, well-kept campground with very private, flat sites.

I integrated this campground as part of a hiking/exploring vacation I planned, stretching from the Badlands to Boise, ID. I cannot believe how stunning of an area this was! Being from New Hampshire, I was not familiar with this area of SD. I am amazed by the beauty and peacefulness of this area - and of this campground. For a very reasonable rate, you can enjoy a spacious, clean site and a clean pit toilet - what more do you need? I only wish I had found time to actually enjoy the lake area more, or the hiking trails that are right off of this area. I spent a lot of time at Custer State Park and also visiting Mount Rushmore. On my way westward, leaving the campground, I stopped at Wind Cave National Park. I highly recommend this campground to anyone who is seeking access to a variety of outdoor activities, as well as access to some great national parks/monument.
