What Guests Are Saying
Lock A campground is well-maintained and offers beautiful river views, spacious sites, and friendly hosts, making it an enjoyable place for camping. Visitors appreciated the cleanliness of the facilities, good connectivity, and access to water activities like kayaking. While the narrow and steep road to the campground and some dated bathroom facilities were mentioned as drawbacks, overall experiences were positive, with many guests eager to return.

Beautiful COE campground on the Cumberland River. Our site (29) was large with water and electric hookups. Dump station was available. Showers were clean, but a little dated and in need of maintenance, however.

Lock A is one of our most favorite COE parks for camping. It probably has about 40 RV sites plus several tent sites located as close to the Cumberland River that you can get! It has boat ramps, barge locks, day picnic areas, and swimming pool all within walking distance. I spent 22 years unloading and loading river barges in Nashville, enjoy sharing information about tow boats and barges, and rules of the river to folks that are enamored with the 15 barge tows traversing the river! I tell folks that being involved with the river system, I enjoyed it so much that I never worked a day in my 22 years on the river!
There are several outstanding eating establishments you must try. Riverview Catfish Restaurant on the South side of the river is just outside Ashland City. A little further out is the Manor Restaurant in Dickson, which is a Southern food buffet that will blow you away! For dessert, you cannot miss Golly G's in Pleasant View for the most delicious ice cream you will ever eat! A dressed out banana split will feed a couple with leftovers!
For safety sake, you need to be aware of the road going from Cheap Hill down to the campground. It is quite curvy, and very steep when going down to the river bottom campground. This road is paved very good, and driving slowly and cautiously will get you there safely! If you love the water, boats, barges, and very spacious clean campsites, you will love Lock A! As a footnote: There are new camp hosts that are super super nice and helpful folks. You will love them also.
