About Chilhowee Campground

Located in the Chilhowee Recreation Area, Chilhowee Campground offers a multitude of camping opportunities for both RV and tent sites, many with electric hookups. The day-use area includes McKamy Lake, a swim area with sand beach, picnic sites, a group picnic area, and a bathhouse.  Be Aware; Do not use GPS directions: GPS coordinates will direct you up Benton Springs Rd. This route is not recommended. We recommend using Forest Service Road 77 to reach the recreation area. It's important to note, this facility requires driving 7 miles up to Chilhowee Campground on a narrow, winding road. Do not use the Benton Springs Access Road to the campground as this is an unpaved and dangerous road for RVs. Inexperienced RV drivers may have difficulties getting to and around the site.

This campground was great! The road is narrow and windy, as described, but the sites are spacious and private and exactly as marketed. The trails were great for exploring, solo or win the family. We will be back!

Overall, the facility is fantastic. The beach of the facility around the beach are really really nice. The problem I had was with the electric service in my campground, although it had 15 amp breakers when I plugged in by Jackery battery to charge it. It would blow the breaker. The jackery is 15 Amp max so shouldn’t have blown that. It does not blow the amps in my house. Also, the sites that I was at were more of a group site than as advertised. It was five sites all closely packed with an open area in between those should not be considered individual campsites.
