This was an absolutely perfect venue for our wedding. We got there early and set up and then had our ceremony and small catered reception. The cabin and surrounding Elkmont area were perfect! The rangers were incredibly kind and helpful.

Ranger explained everything to me as far as cleaning and condition to leave the cabin. The group we had loved the facility, its location, and the beauty surrounding the cabin with the stream in the back and nice walking path in front.

The cabin is gorgeous! Exactly what we wanted for our wedding. The only complaint is that while there are a lot of ceiling lights, the lightbulbs are very dim which made the cabin quite dark even on a sunny day. Also, there’s no mirrors in the cabin which is something to prepare for :)

Spence cabin offers an alternative for groups wanting to spend the day in the Smoky Mountains. Our Friendship Force club had visitors from another state with us, to enjoy an easy hike and learn about the area. The weather was cold and drizziling this late April day. The cabin is not heated, but the main meeting area has a gas fireplace on a 30 minute timer that can be continually reset. If it’s a cold day, definitely suggest attendees wear layers of clothing for warmth. Having the cabin allowed us to be dry for the boxed lunches we brought. After lunch, and a talk about the history of the park, we visited the restored cabins of Daisy Town just a short uphill walk or drive from the cabin.
Ranger Michellle was very helpful in checking us in and out of the cabin. My security deposit was returned to my credit card within 4 work days.
Note: there is no cell service in Elkmont. Download your directions before you leave for the park. In an emergency, the nearest help will be the campground checking center where a Ranger can radio for help.
