Fantastic as always. A few tips:
If you have a generator, make sure your site is in a generator permitted area.
All sites are reservation only as of this writing. Park staff CANNOT help you with reservations; you must go online or call reservations.gov.
The wind in Rio Grande Village campground can go from calm to 30 mph and gusty in literally a minute. We saw a lot of broken, crumpled tents.

This was a wonderful stay. We had site 27 and it was perfect in terms of size (6-person dome tent used for two of us), and felt very private. The sites in the central part of the campground were very exposed, each with shade shelter and picnic table, whereas ours had no shelter but had plenty of tree cover. I would not have enjoyed camping in the central part of the campground since there is no privacy whatsoever.
Visitors should note that apparently regardless of forecast winds can pick up very strongly at random. We had a very windy night where steady windspeed was clocked at around 30mph not including gusts. Several tents in the central area of the campground did not survive this wind.
Bathrooms were clean. The entire campground seemed to abide by the quiet hours rules (more or less). And the hosts were very present and friendly.
Javelinas, cows, coyotes, and roadrunners were aplenty, including a few of these crossing right through our site.
We managed to see all three primary areas of the park with four nights camping. I only wish we'd had a chance to hike the Lost Mine Trail. Next time.
December, it turns out, is a perfect time to visit Big Bend. The trek across the river to Boquillas was worth it only because of the 'experience'. My daughter and I developed a mock-marketing plan for the locals afterwards, because they seem so desperate to sell the exact same thing at each of their vendor tables. They'd do better if each vendor had just one unique type of item. They were all very nice, but it's still a surreal experience. It almost felt like we were walking through a village in Afghanistan. And remember your passport!
If you do visit the village, note that they really want you to accept a tour guide who works for tips, and will offer to let you ride a horse, mule, or in a truck. The walk is easy, so unless you're desperate for an expensive short ride on a hooved animal, just walk it. There was something about walking into Mexico that we liked.

Loved the site！it was large and spacious，soft dirt for tents, close to the bathrooms, tucked back so not many cars driving by, and near nature trails. Would pick this site all over again.

The campsites were clean and easy to access. The bathrooms were convenient to almost any site in the campground and were regularly cleaned. The Rio Grande Village store had everything that I needed and was in walking distance from the campground. All campers were quiet and respectful during the 4 nights that I camped. Wonderful night sky views. Can't wait to return next winter.

Great campsite - restrooms were close by, and close to major attractions such as the hot springs and rio grande trails. Available camping space was small, but enough for our tents and chairs. Recommended for small groups (<10)

This is a good winter destination. This is the coldest, the warmest, and the windiest place in the park. There are plenty of amenities in this area. Store w/Wifi, fuel, showers, laundry, hiking, crossing the border (bring your passport), and historical sites. There is no cell phone service for any carrier in Rio Grande Village. On the road in certain areas, you can pick up cell phone service up to four bars. Tenting in the no generator zone is a good thing. Due to the drought I believe, coyotes (they think perhaps as many as five) are roaming the campground anytime day or night. Also, cows and burros and an occasional javelina are roaming about. Using the bear box is a must. Five Stars all the way.

Really enjoyed our stay. Scenery was spectacular and we saw some wild life, had roadrunners visit our site daily, saw coyotes while walking around campground. Did a lot of hikes and enjoyed them all.

Good base for this corner of the park. For bird watchers, the nature trail is excellent as is nearby Daniel's Ranch.

From Interstate 10, take State Highway 385 south to Fort Stockton and into Marathon. From Marathon, drive 40 miles (62 km) (south on State Highway 385 to the north entrance of Big Bend National Park. Drive straight for 26 miles (42 km) to Park Headquarters at Panther Junction. Turn left and proceed for 20 miles (32 km) to the Rio Grande Village area. Turn left at the stop sign and follow signs into the campground.

General
- Do not reserve campsites that you are not planning to stay in. A camper arriving the day AFTER the reservation begins is considered a No Show. A No Show may result in a cancellation of your ENTIRE reservation. Contact the park at 432-477-2251 if you are late or will not be arriving until the day after your reservation starts.
- Equipment Capacity. A maximum of two motor vehicles, one vehicle with a trailer, one motorhome with tow vehicle or four motorcycles allowed per campsite. A maximum of four tents OR one wheeled camping unit and one tent allowed per campsite. Only 1 conversion van or other type of recreational vehicle allowed per site. Two (2) conversion vans or RVs require 2 campsites.
- Campfires. NO wood or ground fires allowed at any time. Charcoal may be used in the raised grills provided at each site or on a charcoal or propane grill.
- Many sites are in a NO generator zone. Read the site details carefully before selecting a site.
- Food Storage Lockers/Bears & Wildlife. Bears, javelinas and bobcats frequent the area. All food must be kept in approved containers or in a hard-sided vehicle. Trash must be disposed of in the animal-proof dumpsters provided. Coolers or food boxes may not be unattended at any time. Cattle will sometimes cross the river from Mexico to graze on the grass in the campground. Please treat the cattle as you would any other wildlife by keeping a safe distance.
- Hammocks. Hammocks are only allowed when not affixed to natural features. Do not hang hammocks on trees. No hammocks or other devices may be attached/tied to trees or any other natural features or objects.
- Pets. Pets are allowed in each campsite, although they must be leashed and restrained at all times. Pets are not allowed on trails or in buildings.
- No Hookups. There are no electricity, water or sewer hookups at this facility. There is a dump/fill station at the campground entrance.
- No Showers. There are no showers at this campground. The Rio Grande Village camp store (a 5 to 15 minute walk) offers coin-operated showers.
- Are you still camping? If you leave your site during the day, please leave something at the site so we know you are not checking out early. A tent, camp chair, stove, book, etc. Something of little value but that indicates you plan to return.
- Flood Warning. Grassy areas within the campground are subject to flooding due to flood irrigation.
- High Wind Warning. High winds are prevalent in this campground! Stake down your belongings and keep a tidy campsite.
- Border Crossing. There is only one authorized border crossing within Big Bend National Park, located at Boquillas Crossing, a five minute drive from Rio Grande Village campground. Crossing the border at any other unauthorized location is illegal.
- Entrance Fee. Big Bend charges an entrance fee separate from the camping fee. You may pay the fee upon arrival or in advance. The park also honors Federal interagency passes (e.g., annual, senior, military, access, 4th grade, Golden Age pass etc.). For more information visit the park's Fees & Passes web page.
