What Guests Are Saying
Double Lake Recreation Area is a beautiful and clean park set in a tranquil wooded environment, ideal for hiking and biking. Campers appreciate the friendly and helpful hosts, well-maintained sites, and clean restrooms. While some facilities need updates and there's limited fishing due to lily pads, the overall experience is positive, making it a popular getaway spot close to Houston.

Beautiful park tucked deep in the woods, a Bigfoot enthusiast’s dream! The hiking trails were amazing, and the bike trail was a blast, even if it was a little rough in spots. We stayed at Site 36, which is a decent-sized pull-through, but it does slope toward the road, so leveling was a challenge. I eventually gave up after running out of leveling blocks. The site also gets full sun all day with virtually no shade, while several other sites around the loop looked fully shaded. Keep in mind, less than half the sites have a sewer hook-up.
That said, the park itself is fantastic, and being only 45 minutes from home makes it an easy getaway. We’ll definitely be back, just in a different site next time! Park hosts were very welcoming as well.

Our family has camped here for around 60 years. Nice park and clean sites. Host was very nice and diligent.
We noticed wild hog damage in quite a few places. But it is the piney woods of Texas so hogs are a problem everywhere.
Fire pits are old, too tall, full of holes and some needed cleaning.
The shower heads are old and spray extremely hard. The water was so hot that we felt almost burned.
However, the restrooms were cleaned daily and fans helped dry the floor.
We also noticed that the trailer dump station was gone. We had to dump at an RV site upon leaving. Not good if all sites are full. This park just needs some money spent in updates and improvements.

I’ve been camping here multiple times a year for the past eight years. Unfortunately, the campground is no longer being maintained to the standards that it used to be. Wood and ice are no longer available for purchase. The hosts, while they were not necessarily rude… they also did not make you feel welcome. Unfortunately, I think our time at this campground has come to an end. I’ll stick with the state parks.

First visit here, the park is very beautiful and clean, lots of trees which in a lot of sites not very good for starlink, was still able to get some ok mbps. ATT phone service was 1 bar. The sites are decent though sure could use some money for maintenance. One of the quietest park we've visited. Double Lake has a nice 1.3 mile paved trail around it and there are other trails for hiking. Will defiantly come back for more visits.

Restrooms were so clean for a campground, the staff was SO incredibly friendly, the trails were great and the sites were amazing. The only thing that wasn’t awesome was that 95% of the surface of the lake is covered in lily pads so fishing was pretty impossible. If you don’t love to fish, this place is amazing.

For being so close to Houston, it feels like you are far enough out to enjoy nature. The night time is quiet and everyone is respectful
