What Guests Are Saying
Double Lake Recreation Area is a beautiful and clean park set in a tranquil wooded environment, ideal for hiking and biking. Campers appreciate the friendly and helpful hosts, well-maintained sites, and clean restrooms. While some facilities need updates and there's limited fishing due to lily pads, the overall experience is positive, making it a popular getaway spot close to Houston.

I stayed on site #40 and found it roomy and private. Site #39 is too small for a tent, but is great for an RV that just wants a driveway. The hosts/park attendants(?) provided wood, but it was too green to burn. Thankfully there were enough pine cones around to cook my dinner and it wasn't too chilly the next morning without a fire. I saw a place on the way in that sold wood and will stop there next time. The Lake Trail is nice and has several look-outs/piers. The distance between the trail and the surrounding campsites varies. At times it seems like you are walking through someone's site. The grounds are nicely wooded and provide a fair bit of privacy between sites. Site #40 has a 'tent pad', but it is pretty compacted. No way to drive a steak down and you would probably damage your tent moving around on it (even with a tar). There is a comfy and level grassy spot that could fit two tents.

Group Campsite F was wonderful and the Park Hosts were fantastic! Unfortunately, the humidity means that the women's restroom ceiling and exposed woodwork are covered in mildew and mold. The bathroom facilities need to be bleached and repainted with mildew resistant paint. In addition, there was no enforcement of quiet hours, so people in other group sites were partying loudly until 2:00 am.

I love national campgrounds. In my experience they offer the most nature for the least cost. Double Lake was no exception. I was surrounded by tall trees and a water view...and the other campers were all far enough away that it felt I had that spot of nature to myself.
