About Murrell Park

Murrell Park offers day use facilities, boat ramp access and primitive camping on scenic Grapevine Lake, in the middle of the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex in Texas. The lake has become a premier recreation destination for the Southwest and offers some of the best camping, fishing and boating in Texas. This facility is open year-round, but particularly in hot summer months, the cool water provides a refreshing break from the Texas heat.

There was some trash like empty beer cans and empty pizza boxes strewn all over the campsite. When night fell there was screaming and yelling from people that were camping across the cove from us.

Besides that camping site had a beautiful view and we really enjoyed ourselves.

The pit toilets smelled bad the first night. We were gone all the next day and when we came back, they smelled even worse. Bring your own toilet paper in case they run out. We arrived at night on a holiday and there wasn’t any. Otherwise, it was a nice camp ground. Not sure how it is when all the sites are full. I guess because of the cold people canceled because when I booked the site, they were all full. We’ll likely try it again and maybe bring our own bucket toilet or something to avoid the pit toilets.

Campsite was well kept, in a beautiful area right off the lake. Good hiking trails, but were very busy with bicyclists on Saturday morning. Park was very easy to get to, and located close to town so you can pick up anything you may have forgotten!

Close to Lake Grapevine and very quiet at night. Trees for shade, a pretty location. Fellow campers were polite.

Kids had a blast, but the trash at our site was a real let down. We camped at site 29 on Oct 16, 2021. We picked up so much trash left behind by other campers and park staff. I didn’t intend to complain publicly, but the listed park phone rings at the ACE office. They claim no responsibility for the campground. I stopped by the gate house when we left Saturday mid morning, and no one was there.

Best tent/car camping site in DFW. The workers at the gate are extremely nice and informative. The views are phenomenal and it’s very relaxing out here on Hippy Point. My husband and I plan to come back quite often.

There are no bathrooms very close to the campsite. You have to drive or walk a pretty good way to get to it. A porta potty next to the campsite would be nice.
