About Wilson H Fox

Wilson H. Fox Park attracts a variety of campers looking for a fun-filled escape. In springtime, the campground is a colorful place covered in a blanket of wildflowers. In the hot summer months, there's no place like a lakeside campsite with a swimming beach, fishing dock and two ramps to set sail or paddle out on the lake.

I was disappointed in our stay. We came here in 2020 and had a good experience. I liked site 3. It was nice and pretty neat how you can follow the creek to the lake. However the grass in the park was way too tall. It seemed as if it hadn’t been mowed for weeks. The swim beach was gross with old socks and trash everywhere. Our friends rented the picnic shelter and the previous users left trash out. The thing that really set me over the edge was that the showers across from the playground were dangerously hot. I couldn’t even put my head under the showerhead because it felt like I was going to burn myself let alone put my kids in that water. Our friends told the “volunteers” on Thursday night and the issue was never resolved. I also couldn’t believe the amount of tents and all the personal belongings in the rv sites.

Camp sites need to be mowed and tree trimming where RV trailers park. 5th wheel trailers are tall and need more clearance than bumper pull travel trailers.

Burn ban…but not really. They had a large sign out touting a Williamson County burn ban, handed us a yellow piece of paper with details about the Williamson County burn ban, and even stopped by the site to make sure we knew there was a burn ban. It has rained literally every day for 3 weeks so I was confused. After spending the weekend without fire, I contacted Williamson County only to learn there is no burn ban. If it was a Granger Lake burn ban or Army Corps burn ban, ok, tell us that, but to tout false information is ridiculous.

Our stay was great except as for the following; We arrived on Sunday of the weekend before the July 4th 2021 long weekend on the next Friday thru Monday. First thing we noticed was the high grass in and around most campsites, luckily ours was not so bad. But we expected to have the park's contract mowers show up very soon in preparation for the coming 4 day holiday weekend. That didn't happen. what happened instead ruined the rest of our stay and probably many others in the park. On Wednesday evening a large 5th wheel arrived and took site 31. Shortly thereafter about 6pm, a private (not the park's contractor) mowing service arrived and starting mowing the site the large 5th wheel had occupied and an additional 4 other sites. This took the mowing service until 8:30 pm to finish. All while we and others were trying to enjoy the peaceful evening. I believe it was rude and thoughtless of the mowing service and those that hired him and allowed him to disrupt the evening. But more important I believe it was unacceptable, dangerous and possibly a liability issue for the Corp of Engineers to allow private lawn care people/products into the park. Then the next evening a travel trailer occupied a site across from us at 7 pm and by 7:30 had unloaded their personal riding mower and began mowing their site, again disrupting a pleasant evening, until just before nightfall. The mower operator struck several rocks in the process as we could plainly hear. We loaded up and left the next morning, fully disappointed in both the people for mowing at the times they chose and the park's management most of all for allowing private mowing equipment into the park. Then to put icing on the cake, on our way home we found a brand new chip in our truck windshield above the wiper that was not there the day before when I had cleaned the windshield in preparation for our trip back home. The truck had been facing the site across the street when it was mowed the evening before. COE, please reply!

Campsite was dirty- cigarette Butts, bottle caps, other small trash. We had to clean up the shelter before we could use it. Had to leave some if it behind. Busy holiday weekend with lots of noisy guests. To be expected. We didn’t feel like we left the suburbs. Great for families. Normally this area is pristine and quiet. For retirees I recommend the other campground at Granger Lake - Taylor is quieter.

I have stayed at this park about 10 times now and I have always had a great experience. I recommend this place to anyone looking for a great place to camp at and to relax. I love the cleanliness of the park, the overall calmness of the surrounding people. But this past father's day weekend was the worst experience that I have ever had. The bathrooms were the worst!! All of the bathrooms in the park were clogged. I drove to each one and they are all overflowing with toilet paper and #2. It was gross. Since they had overflowed, the water that lingered on the ground smelled horrible.
I needed to take a shower, and the day that I got there #23, the nearest bathroom was covered in roaches and various other critters. My 4 yr old wouldn't even finish going to the bathroom, because of the bugs that were coming out of all places. The bathroom light wasn't on.
I cut my loses and left on Saturday because of the bathroom issues.

First off, the grass in the park was terribly overgrown, and I'm six feet tall, with the grass up to my knees! We were constantly watching for snakes, and while we didn't see any, it may have been because we didn't venture into the tall grass. Several of the local residents brought their own lawnmowers out and mowed around their sites! When we asked about the mowing schedule, we were told that there were still some wet areas out in the grass, making it impossible for the mowers to mow.
Secondly, and as an adjunct to the tall grass were the thousands of mosquitoes plaguing us anytime we went outdoors. I realize that there were several rain events which created standing water, but again, if the grass were short, that would greatly mitigate that situation.
Next, we invited our son and his family to come to the park, so we rented a site with a shelter. The shelter may have been cleaned at some distant date in the past, but it was filthy. Blood (from cleaning fish, I suppose) on the floor, and spiders everywhere. We spent a good couple of hours literally hosing the walls, bunks, sink and floor.
We've been to many parks in the COE system, and have witnessed a marked decline in the appearance and overall cleanliness of the whole park system.
Please don't use the tired old excuse about Covid keeping the staff from cleaning and tending the parks.
We're currently in another COE park in the area, also by a lake, and we have very few mosquitoes.

We had a lovely and quiet time being pretty much the only ones there during the week. We. Don't. Do. Weekends. :)
Disappointed that the "swimming beach" was closed and the site we were in didn't have much of a view of the lake but it was the only one that showed "available" at the time. Turns out there were empty sites the whole time we were there which infuriates us. If you're not gonna show, don't book and then not cancel so that it can be available to others. A little common courtesy has gone out the window these days I guess. Makes me sad.
Overall.....great park! We love pretty much all the COA parks. So much room and kept up.
Host Steve Freeman is cool. He's in the business of making sure we're all Happy Campers. :)
He couldn't do anything about the mosquitoes though. :(
