Beautiful park with plenty room. Spot we had was right on the lake. Electric and water only. $15 a night with America beautiful pass. Just make sure you’re back in park before 10pm or the lock the gate until 8 am.

We very much enjoyed our stay at Hickory Creek. You are right off I-35 with easy access to the metroplex, but it is still nice and quiet and safe in the park. The sites were clean and level, the utilities were in good repair, and the roads are in good shape. We didn't use any of the on site facilities, so I can't speak to those. The staff were polite, and all in all we enjoyed our stay. We'll definitely stay here again.
The only down side to the entire weekend was the gate being locked at 10PM. We are used to that being the case in COE parks near major cities, but it is an even larger concern at this particular park because it's a mile long walk from the gate to the nearest camp sites. It's one thing to walk a couple hundred yards through the gate when you have to park outside after 10PM, but it's another to walk a mile in dress clothes after dark in the summer time down south. Fortunately, we planned ahead and rented a car to stage just inside the gate so we wouldn't have to do that. But the fact remains, there is no consideration for this potential on the part of the park or the COE. I don't know what the answer is, but beware if you have any plans in the evening that you will either have to have a spare vehicle to stage, or plan to stay out of the park until the gates open up the next morning.

Everything was so clean. The campsite was clean and well maintained as well as the restrooms and showers. The water was low so the beach was muddy, but that was mother nature's fault.
Definitely coming back.

Generally a very pleasant experience. Pricing is fair. RV campsites were clean and maintained. Restrooms were not well maintained, and their facilities were not all in working order.

This is our 2nd stay at Hickory Creek and we love this park. Although the lake level is much lower than it was in 2021, the park is still maintained and super clean. Spots are well spaced and quiet. Park Hosts and staff are some of the nicest folks you will ever meet. (We have similar experiences at other COE Campgrounds!) Our only negative… the 105+ degree temps each day, which were everywhere in the state of Texas. At least our spot, 086, had afternoon shade and beautiful lake views!
