About Hanks Creek

Hanks Creek Park has something for everyone, with plenty of water sports on Sam Rayburn Reservoir and volleyball, mountain biking, wild life viewing and birding for those who want to stay on shore. The Red-cockaded woodpecker, an endangered species, is found throughout the forest surrounding the reservoir. The bird makes its home by pecking cavities in large, living pine trees.

What Guests Are Saying

Hanks Creek campground is well-kept and offers a peaceful atmosphere, with clean sites and decent facilities, making it a great spot for relaxation and outdoor activities. Many campers enjoyed the beautiful views of the lake and appreciated the friendly park hosts. However, some areas are in need of maintenance and updates, particularly the boat ramps and restroom facilities, which have been affected by recent flooding and storms.

Camp site nice with plenty of room for our 2 tents. Restrooms were clean but dated. Shower was clean but dated and cramped in the cloths changing area.

Stayed here in a 43' motorhome with towed. Site was long enough to accommodate everything. Place was clean and beautiful. No issues with amenities at the site. Had only 1 bar of cell service on Verizon, and AT&T. But it was adequate. No tv reception on antenna. Site was paved and somewhat level. There was nobody manning the gate, so you had to keep up with your entry gate code, and the rec.gov map to find your site. Thank goodness for that 1bar of cell service so that I could download the map on the fly. We stayed for 7 nights. Dump station had an odd angle to it and the metal cap on the drain was broken off. Sewer did not have a threaded connection so sewer was not sealed to the drain, which the hose blew out when I dumped. There was a water hose there to clean up the mess. It wirks but its just a 2 person job. One person to hold down end of hose. We loved it here.

Had a great time, but if your GPS tries to take you down anything but a farm market road, don't do it!

Lights out in the screened shelter we rented. One of the showers at the bath house never gets hot. Other than this it was fine

Policies & Rules

Cancellation policy

  • Reservation fees are non-refundable. For campsites, cabins, lookouts, yurts, group sites, and similar stays, we charge a reservation service fee of $8.
  • Standard cancellations usually have a $10 cancellation fee. Customers can generally cancel before the check-in date online.
  • Late cancellation rules differ by stay type.
    • Individual campsites: cancelling after 12:00am local time the day before arrival usually means a $10 cancellation fee plus forfeiting the first night's fee.
    • Cabins, lookouts, and yurts: cancelling less than 14 days before arrival usually means a $10 cancellation fee plus forfeiting the first night's fee.
    • One-night reservations: a late cancellation usually forfeits the full amount paid, up to the total original reservation cost.
  • Modifications are allowed before the cut-off window, but fees depend on the change. Changing to dates completely outside the original reservation dates may trigger a $10 change fee. Extending or shortening a stay that still includes original dates usually has no change fee, though refunds may depend on timing and facility rules. Switching to the same type of campsite for the same dates usually has no change fee, but price differences are charged or refunded.
  • Early departures may or may not be refunded. At certain facilities, partial refunds may be possible if staff can mark the site available for other visitors. No refund is given for a night if the early departure is requested after that day's check-out time.
  • Security deposits are separate. Security deposits may be refunded to the original payment method if the facility is left in acceptable condition, as determined by the property.
