This place was amazing when I first moved here at the April of 2021. But this is it the same place it used to be. The up keep is terrible now. Some staff amazing! Shout out to Titus!! But others who were super friendly have become calloused. The pool is not kept up and the outdoor pool no longer heated in the off season. This is south Texas we don’t have an off season. The bathhouses which use to be kept immaculate are now is a constant state of disgust. The price keeps going up but quality and amenities keep declining. You use to have to wait to get a long term spot but now the park is more vacant the not. I true echo of the deteriorating situation of the once amazing Texas Hill County Cabin and RV resort.

We are currently staying here for Labor Day Weekend. Although we usually stay at state parks, we opted to stay here this holiday weekend due the location being only about 15 minutes to Schlitterbahn. This place does have nice amenities and the staff is very friendly. There are probably more long-term renters than visitors but 99.9% of them keep up their rigs and area well. There was only one spot that had a lot of junk piled in. Shade is abundant which is a big deal in the hot Texas summers! The pool was clean and well maintained. Although we didn't get to use the other amenities (park, splash pad, game room, fitness center, laundry facility, bathrooms, and more!) They did look very nice! The tiny homes looked like a great option for those who don't want to bother with an RV. From the outside, they looked very well kept!

Now, on to the not so positive part (and this may not be an issue for most) but it seems that most pad sites are not level. Not even close. They are thick graveled sites which make using risers a little difficult. Our pad slopped downward, pretty steep, and to the left. It was nearly impossible to get our trailer up on the risers due to the thick, slick gravel. The west side of the park is directly next to I-35, so keep that in mind when booking if traffic noise bothers you. I loved having the dog park area for our pup to run free, but the gravel and stickers mixed in with grass made that task a little challenging. It's not a deal breaker but something to consider if you have tinder footed fur babies. The only other complaint is the sewer gas that leaks. We had ours capped but it was still very potent 😅 not sure this is preventable but it hasn't ever been an issue at other parks for us.

There were a lot of pluses to out way the negatives. For example 5 negatives were; 1 staff member was rude to my children when they asked for directions to the in door pool. She answered them in a rude way like she didn't want to be bothered. 🤨 Some things in the game room needs to be updated, but it was neat and the kids had fun. The website pictures need updated to show the arcade games are not there. The store barley had anything in it. They definitely need to update the website picture on that. I did not get the 30% discount that it shows on the website because I had already checked out and they don't automatically apply it. Staff says you have to mention it when you check in. 🤔 Last but not least we did find a bug in our room but it was dead.
Now for the positives; We really enjoyed the pool areas each time we return from being out on the town. We enjoyed the outside games as well volleyball etc. One night we were there they had karaoke night my kids went they said it was cool. They provided dishes so we could cook, a BBQ pit as well cups/plates and bowls that is all in the lodge. I will for sure bring my family here again but maybe stay in a bigger lodge.

Located right off of I-35 as you’re entering New Braunfels going north, you can find Sun Retreats Texas Hill Country Resort. We absolutely had a very relaxing and enjoyable experience starting here. The place is excellent condition and the staff, especially Jen, was very accommodating and hospitable. We stayed in a small cottage for two that puts many hotel rooms we’ve stayed at to shame. 2 Outdoor pool, 1indoor pool, 2 hot tubs, a rec room with pool table and games, BBQ pit and picnic table at every cottage, full gym, very nice playground for the kids, basketball half court and a beach volleyball court, amongst other amenities. Very quiet and peaceful. Everyone said hello with a smile. I would rate it a 10 if I could.
