The campground is surrounded by the Sam Houston national forest. Other than the occasional noisy speed boat, it is very peaceful. There were some issues with the hiking trails directly around the campground. Some of the trails were closed due to foot bridge problems. The facilities are fairly well maintained and everything works in the restrooms.

Great campsites. Clean and level. Camp hosts were very helpful and courteous. I really enjoyed staying there by the lake. It had beautiful sunsets every night!!!

3 star is a stretch. Our campsite was on the water, which was nice, but there are only a few of those. Fairly decent walking trail. But that's the only highlights. Camp host was very invasive, and not helpfull. No firewood available for sale, no soap or toilet paper in ladies bathroom. Notified the host, and his reply was "it's on order". Overall neutral experience.

Camp Hosts Jessie and Lee were exceptionally helpful and friendly. They were very visible around the loop making sure all was in working order and the sites were clean. The area is beautiful. A nice walking path by the lake. We enjoyed the peace and quiet of the campground. Bonus was the sewer connection that you don't typically find the these forestry sites. We'll be back.

Turn right (west) on FM 1375. The Sam Houston District Office is on the right approximately 2.5 mi west of I-45. Cagle Recreation Area is approximately 6 mi west of I-45 and approximately 3 mi west of the District Office on the left hand side of FM 1375.

The Sam Houston District Office is on the right approximately 2.5 mi west of I-45. Cagle Recreation Area is approximately 6 mi west of I-45 and approximately 3 mi west of the District Office on the left hand side of FM 1375.
Cagle Recreation Area is accessible via I-45, with the New Waverly exit providing access to FM 1375, which leads directly to the campground approximately 6 miles west of the interstate.
