We love Cagle recreation area, but our last visit was made less than enjoyable by the park host named Lee. He was constantly on 'patrol' threatening $150 fines for any tiny infraction. He was inspecting campsites multiple times a day, and entering campsites to clean firepits even when people were using them. We do not wish to come back there again when he is park commandant.

The camp hosts was very cordial and helpful. They kept the sites and the bathrooms very clean. Would definitely come back again.

Everything was clean and well maintained. The boat ramp was very convenient and the hosts and hostesses were polite and friendly. I will be returning.

Nice quiet campground. Camp hosts are very nice.
Site 24 is not level. Many sites are not level. We also stayed at site 36 which was pretty level.
Verizon signal almost zero.
Several nice trails. Quite a drive to get anywhere, but again, that makes it nice and quiet. The birds in the morning are just incredible.
Pricing was a surprise. I need to pay closer attention. $8 reservation fee and $10 electric fee. $20 for the site so total was $38, which is not really worth it, compared to most sites booked through Recreation.gov. Apparently this campground is now owned by the state, which would account for the higher prices.
Overall, nice place, but probably won't be back here much if at all. For the locals, it's probably a great weekend retreat. Nice and clean.

Camp sites are nice with decent space between them. Locations for water, power, sewer were set up well and were in good repair. Park is older, so "paved" trails are in a little rough shape. Holes, tree roots etc along with older wooden bridges that are in various stages of failing. Our loop had one bath/shower house. Kept clean, however, at the time we were there (4/2024), the June bugs were out in force and were laying dead all over the bathrooms and the sidewalks. Just nature and the lights around the bath. The staff cleaned up everyday. Just a lot every day. Found the camp hosts to be very nice/hospitable. They made sure we were all set up and I believe that they also take care of the bath/showers. Don't expect to find someone in the gate house. They no longer seem to staff it anymore. At least, we never saw anyone there during our two day stay, and there was a sign stating that the gate house wasn't staffed....
I'd recommend them for sure and will be back if were in the area again!
