Dog Canyon is a beautiful primitive campsite with 4 RV sites and several tent camping sites. There is no electricity or water at the individual RV sites but a bathroom and a potable water hydrant is nearby. There is a trail head that leads to 2 different trails at the camping site and a shorter trail is nearby the tent sites.

Great to camp out in the lovely valley, only problem is the campsites are really close together which is weird in such a big park.

Other than that, the campsite is next to many hiking trails that get you up into the mountains with awesome views!

Next time we plan on hiking in from the south side or a through hike from either side/.

Beautiful site! We did a wonderful 8-mile (16m RT) backpack from Dog Canyon to McKittrick Ridge Camp.

We had a great time at Dog Canyon! Hiked the nature trail close to camp. Also, hiked up to lost peak as well as to the tejas trail/mckittrick trail junction. All tent sites were full except for one. Only complaint was that the tent sites were a little close to each other. Lets just say we made some new friends and it was a lot of fun! No cell service at all. Wifi was a short walk to the ranger station/office. Bathrooms were clean with flushable toilets.

Dog Canyon is a beautiful, very isolated campground on the North edge of the national park. There are only 4 RV sites, for rather small RVs, and about 10 very nice tent sites, for which you need to park the car on the neighboring parking lot. The surroundings of the campground are gorgeous! Keep in mind that hiking trails from the campground are rather long and steep up. There is a short nature trail mostly on flat terrain. The night sky is breathtaking!

Beautiful out of the way campground in this remote but worth the trip national park. Great hike to McKittrick Valley overlook.
