It was extremely cold the weekend I stayed at McCown Valley Park, I wrapped the picnic area in a tarp, stayed warm and just relaxed without doing anything.

We frequent Mccown Valley Park and this is the first time we camped at this part of the park but, I'm glad we did. There was a lot of deer to watch and it was so peaceful. going to reserve in that area again.

I have been camping here for 20 years on the day rider side. They removed the port a potty a couple of years ago. With all the nice accommodations there you would think the park would reinstall at the very least another port a potty for the guests. We were all discussing it and noticed the secondary host station that has been closed for years and thought what a great idea to make it a bathroom and possible shower. Also the entrance to the park is oddly situated and can cause big trailers a lot of damage . Someone needs to place a sign there informing visitors that they need to make allowances for this when entering. Was informed by the camp host that people are always misjudging it and damaging their vehicles and trailers. That being said we enjoy Whitney very much and understand these are tuff times for our parks .

Weather was a bit crappy and the fish weren't biting, but that's not the parks fault. Area was clean, easy access to the bathrooms/showers. Bathrooms could use a bit of TLC, but it's a public state park so they were decent, all things considered.
All in all, other than the weather, it was a nice 4 day stay - just wish the weather would have cooperated more so I could have taken the kayak out.

We camp at McCown several times a year. It is well maintained and the gate staff is very friendly. We stayed in space 6 which is way too close to number 5. The rest of the spaces are well laid out but for some reason this space literally backs up to the grill for 5.

The horse pens near the equestrian sites 071, 072, 073 etc. are really great. I don't like to tie my horse all night.

Please be advised that Field Grassburs exist in our parks. We are doing our best to implement a management plan to reduce the inundated areas. This plan may take several years in order to reduce the amount of Grassburs, but we are making every attempt to provide pleasant, safe, and healthy recreation opportunities. |
