We made our reservation late, same day of our stay, but asked the reservation agent if we would be able to enter the park if we weren't able to make it in by 10 pm. She thought there would be but there was not. We were never able to stay overnight for that reservation.

We drove into McGown Valley and the Park Ranger Jan was in the office. Very lovely person!
Our site was a very nice site. It was very heavily treed and we did have some issues trying to enter and exit. So next time would not select that side of the park if we had a choice. The park is lovely and we will return. We did have one hick up as a directly across from our campsite the day after we arrived a large group moved into the site. They put up 4 tents had about 4 cars and were over the limit of people for one site. This totally blocked our view.
Other than this one item we had a lovely time.

We stayed at campsite #58. It was the perfect location for several reasons. First, on the map, it looks way farther from the bathrooms than it actually is. It is literally next to them. Second, the bathrooms have showers, which I thought they did not according to the map. Third, it is one of the most leveled campgrounds which came in extremely handy for setting up the tents. The campsite next to us, #57 I believe, had a terrible ditch-like feel, so being our first time camping we felt lucky to have found this spot. Lastly, it is literally lakefront which will come in handy in the summer, as long as swimming is allowed. I'm not sure if it was because it was too cold for anyone to get in, but there weren't any signs saying "no swimming". We have already made our reservation for Memorial Day, sadly we could not get #58 again as it was ALREADY :( taken, but we got #55 and if I remember correctly, that was one was fine too.

It is a beautiful park, HOWEVER, after staying in 3 different sites and my friends staying in 3 different sites, we are convinced that there isn't ONE level spot in the whole park.

Love this park, its a great area of lake Whitney. On this trip the campers followed all rules so it was very quiet by 10pm. Highly recommend, clean and good playgrounds for the kids.
