Park is nice. Great for a small rig. If you have a big rig, beware of low hanging limbs and tight sites and turns, especially on the east side of the park. Or just go to Whitney SP instead.

Needed to be mowed and mowers came a day later. Someone was in our campsite when we arrived but when asked they left.

The park was really nice and quiet. The lakes high water level had plenty of sites blocked off, but that made for many nice walks and bike rides having less distraction. This was a very peaceful place to camp. We were in site 19 and we sat and watched plenty of deer eating in the meadow across from our site while sitting by the fire.

Everything was fine but the grass was high. We were in the horse part /overflow so I get it’s not used that much but we wouldn’t sit around the fire pit with the high grass, we had seen two 4-5’ snakes on the road so it was a no go!

The whole point to coming down and camping was so that we could take our boat out and go fishing. The boat ramp was closed due to excessive rain, but we were not informed of this. So we showed up to our camping spot. We set up our camping spot and then I walked down to the boat ramp to find that it was closed and not accessible. So we loaded our boat back up onto the back of the truck and we loaded our camper back up and we headed back home, so we were not even there for an hour and yet we still paid for it. We were very unhappy with our attempted stay. As we were not informed of the current conditions of the park

From I-35 in Hillsboro, take HWY 22 west 12 miles to Whitney, exit 933 north for 2.5 miles to FM 1713. Proceed 6 miles west, following signs into campground.
Access is available from I-35 via HWY 22, approximately 12 miles to Whitney, and then via exit 933 north for 2.5 miles to FM 1713.
Elevation: 184 feet
6.1 mi drive to downtown Whitney (about 9 min)

General
- Before camping at McCown Valley please familiarize yourself with all applicable rules and regulations. Click Here to review Title 36.
- Inbound gates open and close at.
- A maximum of three vehicles allowed per campsite, group sites excluded
- No ATVs/OHVs allowed
- A fishing license is required to fish at all parks on Lake Whitney
- Please call the Whitney Lake Project Office 254-622-3332 for more information and burn ban restrictions
- Please be advised that Field Grassburs exist in our parks. We are doing our best to implement a management plan to reduce the inundated areas. This plan may take several years in order to reduce the amount of Grassburs, but we are making every attempt to provide pleasant, safe, and healthy recreation opportunities.
- Don't Move Firewood: Protect your forests from tree-killing pests by buying your firewood locally and burning it on-site. Visit Dontmovefirewood.org for further information.
- McCown Valley Park has a security gate for the 0-54 camping loop. Campers should receive a code with their reservation. This code does not grant after-hours access to the park.
