About Green River Campground

The Green River Campground is located along the banks of the Green River at an elevation of 4,750 feet (1448 m). The highly eroded Split Mountain is visible to the north. The campground is about five miles (8 km) from the famous Quarry Exhibit Hall, where you can see 149 million year old dinosaur bones still encased in the rock. A short distance from the campground is the Split Mountain Boat Ramp where river rafters come off the Green River after trips through Dinosaur National Monument's canyons.

Our site was B 52. There was a fire pit and plenty of space, however no shade or trees. We have a canopy for shade but we’re unable to keep it up due to wind. We stayed busy in the area exploring so daytime shade was actually not an issue.

Site #47. Morning shade.... hot and sunny in the peak of the day. But, we brought our sun shade, so we were okay.

Love this campsite! Had a great time. Really enjoyed it, other than the heat. We went to the outdoor pool in Roosevelt to escape for the day.

You can’t beat the Fossil Quarry and the driving tour to Josie’s cabin. Loved it here!

The campsite is nice and a great location. It is close to the water. The squirrels/chipmunks are super aggressive. One came up and took food from my toddler son's hand and at another two sites they got into people's cars. We always several at meal time that showed no fear to jumping up on the picnic tables.

visited in late May / early June, tent camping. campsites were excellently maintained, water supply and flush toilets were clean. our site wasn't super shaded, but others were - a critical factor in the afternoon even in late spring!

We loved staying at Green River Campground. Facilities were sparkling clean, the host kind and knowledgeable, and it was close to Dinosaur so it was very easy to access the quarry and trails. I would stay here again! There are first come first serve sites so if you can't get a reservation there is still a chance you can get a site.

Loved how private each campsite felt, the spaces were great, well marked and easy to find, however, the bathrooms definitely could have been better. They were very dirty and had no options for drying hands. Also, bring A LOT of bug spray. Way more bugs than any of the other national park campsites we stayed at during our trip. Bugs and bathrooms aside though, the stars were incredible and the drive there was equally amazing.

I enjoyed my stay at Green River Campground. Site 75 which is a FF site. You can hear the river at this site. I had my camper/trailer with me which was in the shade at the hottest time of day although the campsite, picnic table and fire ring are in full sun all day and evening. I left my camper there for 3 days while I rafted Gates of Lodore. I bathed in river. Bathroom and freshwater very close. No showers. You hv to dump all gray water in sewer by bathhouse. Nice hike to Split Mtn campground (full sun). Loved the hike at Split Mtn!

The campground is fine and has several sites with adequate shade. Our specific site had no shade, however. So, we spent as little time as possible at the site and returned after 6:30pm.

Other campers were great and not a distraction from sleep and the night sky. The night sky is amazing and it’s worth sleeping with an unobstructed view!

The camp host was very nice. We were able to switch spots to get a nice shady spot. Hook ups would have been nice due to the heat but the shade helped and the kids enjoyed the wonderful activities Dinosaur had to offer, including the quarry, petroglyphs, and swimming in the river near the boat ramp. The bathrooms had flush toilets and there was a place to refill water bottles at the campsite and visitor center.
