What Guests Are Saying

Lower Bowns is a great, remote, and quiet campsite with clean facilities, including a pit toilet, fire pits, and picnic tables. It offers a nice fishing hole and spacious lots for camping. However, access involves a steep, rutted road, and many campers may prefer dispersed camping nearby due to potential interruptions from ATV users.

Killer ants! First of all, 19 miles of bad dirt road to get there. Beautiful setting with all the trees and the lake. But then the ants. They swarm you and literally attack you! The climb in you feet and bite. We left early.

The good:
A pretty and woodsy campground which was extremely quite in early October.
The bad:
A long drive down from Hyw 12
The reservoir was very low and not particularly scenic at all in early October

Never got there. Problem with rental car and not enough signs from sr12 to know how far we had to go to on twisty turny roads before dark.

This campground is at the end of a forest road in some major need of repair. Upon arriving at my site which I'd reserved on this site for two nights, I found no indication my site was reserved. No tag, nothing. The site had not been cleaned up. Bottle caps, sticky substance on picnic table etc. It was not pleasant. There was a group site down the road with many screaming children. Path to Bowens lake was difficult to locate. Vault toilet was decent. I only stayed one night and headed out to find a better campground for my second night in the area. As a solo, female, traveler I did not feel safe.

Policies & Rules

Cancellation policy

  • Reservation fees are non-refundable. For campsites, cabins, lookouts, yurts, group sites, and similar stays, we charge a reservation service fee of $8.
  • Standard cancellations usually have a $10 cancellation fee. Customers can generally cancel before the check-in date online.
  • Late cancellation rules differ by stay type.
    • Individual campsites: cancelling after 12:00am local time the day before arrival usually means a $10 cancellation fee plus forfeiting the first night's fee.
    • Cabins, lookouts, and yurts: cancelling less than 14 days before arrival usually means a $10 cancellation fee plus forfeiting the first night's fee.
    • One-night reservations: a late cancellation usually forfeits the full amount paid, up to the total original reservation cost.
  • Modifications are allowed before the cut-off window, but fees depend on the change. Changing to dates completely outside the original reservation dates may trigger a $10 change fee. Extending or shortening a stay that still includes original dates usually has no change fee, though refunds may depend on timing and facility rules. Switching to the same type of campsite for the same dates usually has no change fee, but price differences are charged or refunded.
  • Early departures may or may not be refunded. At certain facilities, partial refunds may be possible if staff can mark the site available for other visitors. No refund is given for a night if the early departure is requested after that day's check-out time.
  • Security deposits are separate. Security deposits may be refunded to the original payment method if the facility is left in acceptable condition, as determined by the property.
