Green River Float-in Campsites

Just off a trip running A-B-C and it was great. We stayed at Grasshopper 1 (B) the first night and at Bridgeport (C) the second night, taking out at Pipeline. Just upriver from Grasshopper is an osprey nest with babies! We saw a parent dive and catch a fish so big it struggled to get it out of the water and fly it back to the nest. Amazing wildlife viewing. We also saw otters (maybe a mink?) aplenty. Right after we put in on our final morning after our overnight at Bridgeport, we saw a mama and baby moose.

We had trouble seeing other campsites in Section C due to the thick riverside riparian vegetation. Each section provides something for boaters. Section A is fish-heavy and thus fishing heavy, although when we were there, it was not as crowded as we thought it might be (rain in the forecast?). Section B was quiet and lovely, with fish still everywhere but far fewer boats and people. Section C is not for everyone but we loved it. The wildlife viewing was great and the easy floating was a nice addition to the multi-day float.

The campground was really nice. The tent platforms were flat and had soft sand. The fire pit was very cool because it's not often you can have a fire in the summer in North America anymore, so we really appreciated that. This campsite is tucked away a little bit into the woods. You can't see the river from everywhere, but that's still fine. You're a little bit close to the other Big Pine 1 people, but also not a big deal.

So clean, fun and quiet! Beautiful!

Great campsites right on the River. Have stayed 4X now. Stonefly campsites are about 20 feet up but nice views overlooking a rapid. Jackson Marsh was stunning and best sunset over the river, looking west. Big Pines right on the water and gorgeous too. Expensive due to fees but good and worth it.

Cicada is a decent site, nice lower tent pad near the water. Not a ton of shade, due to the smaller sage brush and there is no really eddy to hang out in. The picnic table is in need of repairs, as all the boards have warped significantly over the years. Luckily, we ran into some BLM rangers at Jarvi's and they are aware of this aging table. This is a good site for a small group that has little gear, as there is a bit of an uphill hike to get from boat to camp.

Big Pine II is a large campsite with 4 tent pads, two picnic tables and a fire ring with a hinged grate surrounded by 4 long benches that easily accommodated our party of 5 adults and 2 kids. Be aware that Big Pine I is immediately next door and the single boat tie-up and entry trail is shared by both campsites. We were fortunate that our neighbors were friendly and courteous, and the close proximity was not a problem. The kids had fun climbing the rocks behind the campsite. These rocks form the back wall of the latrine partition, making the area quite private.

Camps in B section are well marked and clean. Sand camp is quite nice. C section is a whole different story with few marked camps and quality goes way down. We ended up finding an unmarked camp on our own.
